So I want this to by my Tourny List. Any Wolf Guard with a power fist and a combi weapon is attatched to a grey hunter squad and the other 9 are all in a drop pod together. The lords are going to run up with the wolves of course. pretty straight forward list whatcha think? I figured this would do pretty good against guard because its a fast in ur face list with a lot of guys and with 15 missiles to back it up how can they not be annoyed. Any suggestions would be great.

TBH, I don't like the list. IMHO any decent army at this point value is going to have more AP3 and/or power weapons than you can shake your furry paws at which really starts to devalue the benefit typically garnered from spamming power armour.

Long story short, you don't need more bolters; you need more special weapons, more assualt troops, more toys, just more dakka.

I would take 4 Grey Hunters Packs (not in drop pods but that's a taste issue). The Long Fangs can stay but consider replacing one or two rocket launchers with lascannons at this point value (just because you can with the extra points).

Those Wolf Guard Squads are HUGE! The first squad can stay, maybe drop 1 guy (cuz you now have only 4 GH squads) the second one can seriously be dropped. It doesn't add much that GH don't and they shoot worse once their combi-weapons are gone. Take those points and get yourself something nice and hammer-y.

Given that you've already dedicated your HQs to Wolf Lords I would recommend Thunderwolf Cavalry. If you decide to go with that, I would also take the Lord with Saga of the Bear and downgrade him to a Battle Leader with Saga of the Hunter. You don't REALLY need bear on a thunderwolf because STR10 is few and far between. Watch out for vindicators and railguns and you'll be just fine.

Now, you've got a bunch of wolves and a screening unit of fenrisians. The real fun comes with the new FAQ which says that an IC with stealth confers it to his unit. Yup, that means your whole Thunderwolf squad now has a 3+ cover save from the fenerisians in front of it.

Overall, you just need to drop some basic marines. You've definitely passed the point of diminishing return on them with this list.

After trying the previous list a few times I did find that I wanted more bite so I changed it up. I won all my games with the other list but they where pretty close games. I played DE, Eldar, IG, and some marines. I have yet to try this new list out but I think it has some pretty good bite in it.

The wolf lord will ride with the little wolves and screen Canis, the battle leader and the thunder cav who will all grab that 3+ save. The reason I put the lord with the wolves is because a better LD for them when they start getting slaughtered.

Turn one I will have the drop pod with the 4 termies and the 2 combi melta guys drop down as well as the two flamer or melta pods depending on who I am fighting. I figured that would be a good distraction till the wolves show up to grab a bite to eat.

Hey that ain't bad.

I still think the list lacks focus though. I'm not sure if you're trying to do a Thunderwolf list or a drop pod GH list.

It matters because the goals of each are quite different. A Thunderwolf list will generally attempt to table an opponent (with furry and righteous impunity) whereas a Drop GH list is a fairly balanced Marine list with mixed assault elements; it typically wins by cornering opponents and taking advantage of melta saturation and counter-assault.

I say, either get rid of the Thunderwolves and develop the drop pod theme. Or take two min squads of Grey Hunters and just go nuts on the wolves. I prefer the latter.

Good call with the WGBL. That new stealth rule is broken but it won't stop me from using it either.

I have to agree with the over cluttering of Grey Hunters take some wolf priest with those thunderwolves if possible, re-rolling hits with the preferred enemy rule kicks ***. Or if you prefer something i bit more shooty go with rune priests with master of runes itll bring diversity to your list so that your oponent has to choose either shoot at the charging thunder wolves or take out the drunk dude throwing magical lighting at his weak armored vehicles Lol

Consider some terminators in a drop pod, dropping some terminators and flamer templating and assault cannoning out of it will DEFINATLY draw fire and give you more time to position the rest of your army.

Unfortunately you CANNOT put a wolf or rune priest on a thunderwolf mount. While I understand the move for balancing issues it saddens me -_-

Aaahhh i see that now. I still believe the need for some diversity in the army is a essential thing. Ive been thinking about some ideas for my own 2250 tourny list im gonna put wolf priests with a jump pack maybe try wolf priest, rune priest and Skyclaws with mark of wulfen cheap squad and rather hard hitting deep striking unit.

If you're going Thunder Wolf Cav it's pretty much go big or go home. You'll want two lords with Storm Shields, and artificer armor, one with Saga of the Bear (to soak some of the Str. 10 that will be heading your way, also to duel with force weapons) and one with Saga of Majesty (so psyker battle squads and Fear of the Darkness don't make you cry). You'll want at least 4 normal guys with a pair of Storm Shields split among them. Expect to pay about 800 points. I've watched that unit get charged by 10 assault termies with a null zone librarian, and come out mostly intact.

If you skimp on defenses for these guys, they won't absorb an entire army's worth of firepower and charges that they will attract.

This blog (http://rumorsofheresy.blogspot.com/2010/10/battle-report-log.html)has a number of good battle reports using a Thunder Wolf Deathstar.

IDK I thought that having three pods drop down would be a great distraction and a deal with me and the wolves get your or deal with the wolves and I get you kinda thing. I changed the list a lot and wanted to know what you think or if you are still 100% against the pods. Turn one the termi pod and two other pods would drop in their face.... the battle leader and one squad of cav would be behind the fen wolves with a +3 cover and the lord would ride up with the other squad. I figured that would be 3 scary hammer units in close combat by turn 2 and you got 12 missiles firing at you from behind and two pods waiting to drop down on objectvies if needed.

Here is the new list... Ideas?
