Just a general thread about where you play, maybe we can luck into some folks finding new or better stores to play at or stores with other BoLS members.

I shop at Games & Stuff in Glen Burnie, MD.

I am in the Portland OR metro area and I play most of the time at Knightfall Games, though I also like Zgames and Rivals, they're just a lot further and the terrain's not quite as top notch.

I play at Battleforge games quite a bit(once or twice a week.). They have a tremendous gaming night on Thursdays. I also, play tournaments at Dragon's Lair about once a month. Both are in Austin Tx. When I drive down to the Houston area I play at Montag's Games in Pearland. A few weeks ago I went to a store called Battlefield Games in Kileen Tx. I had a great time and the owner there runs a nice tournament.

Usually my local GCN club, though this is itself based in a GW store, but as we rent the place for the evening we can at least suspend some of the daft rules that apply normally.

I mainly play with a small group of friends who are still new to 40K (I used to play WHFB exclusively). I'd love to go to the local Battleforge Games on Thursday nights more regularly, but I seem to always have a conflict...

Erazoender - I know you're on the North Shore, but there are a couple of nice shops with a good group of regulars in Vancouver proper. Look up Strategies on Main St. (40k on Sundays) and Connections games on Renfrew (40k 1st Saturday of each month, I think?). Both are any-age friendly as well.

Trumpeter Society hosts all sorts of tabletop games, but there's a regular 40k league every few months or large battles when they meet, one Friday a month.

Currently Battlefield Games, in Killeen, TX. I am in there a bunch. Will is a fantastic store owner and very dedicated to the hobby, keeping a well lit, clean, and professional store.

Right before I came back over here (in Iraq at the minute) I found Battleforge in Austin by accident while going to the Alamo Drafthouse with the wife that they are right next to, so when I get home I believe that my "me" night will become Thursdays, so that I can go down there and play.

Past stores have included Danger Planet in Waltham (didn't miss a tourney there for several years), Dakka Dakka B&M (same thing, I was there at least once every few months for a good long time). And of course The Keep Games and Comics, in Brunswick, ME which has sadly closed I understand, where I was daily for more then 5 years.

Its hard to find a place to game in New York city and stay away from the younger croud that usually horde and drool all over your minis at the local Games workshop . Our club THE WARMONGER CLUB worked out a deal with a store called the complete stratigist , we run a few tournys a year and promise to buy a certine amount of product and in return he let us turn his basement into a game area with about 8 tables with awesome terrian our club has grown over the years so we needed a place like that to play in , and its locaded in a great place in manhatten .

I als have a table in my house where my sons and close friends get in some game time as well .

In one of several clubs (not store based gaming groups) that I frequent. This seems to be how the majority of our clubs are.
A like minded group finds a venue and sets up camp - through regular hires of function rooms/halls.

I haven't played in a games store in over 10 years (and that was one of two battle bunkers in Sydney, Australia).

There is an independant stockist that runs a few good size tables till late a few doors up from the Northampton GW store. Their games night is on a different night to the GW store's vet night so you can get two gaming nights a week. I have a question for you guys...

There seems to be (in my local area) a kind of stigma for those sho choose not to play at our FLGS. The thought is that you should play there as much as possbile to support the store so that it remains open. My question is:

1. Is it a proper thing to put that kind of demand on the players.
2. There is s aymbotic relationship between players and FLGS, but what is the balance?

There is a bit of a stigma locally for people who always play at home, but that is mostly because they tend to never leave their apartment except to work, never meet new people, and prefer to invite only a few old friends to play 40k. We encourage them to play at the FLGS where they can mingle with other human beings. Plus the terrain is better.

The "support the store" pressure usually comes in the form of encouragement to buy models at the FLGS instead of buying from ebay.

Yea, I get where the pressure is coming from, my question is where is the balance? Gamers want to see good deals at their FLGS, and the FLGS wants to see people buy from them andplay at their store. Does the FLGS have the right to pressure players to play there if they don't encourage players to buy there (I am purely playing devils advocate).

Sadly they try. Our local store(the only place that sells it and has somewhere for us to play within an hour or two)has a large group of people who "enforce"(and are encouraged to by the staff) the buying from the store models. They actually belittled a guy for about an hour because he bought his entire Lizardmen army from eBay. Likewise people who try to sell armies or older models there are told not to by them because it destroys the store. The store also sells everything at retail and in a few rare cases at more than retail. About once a year there is a 25% off day, and also 2 or 3 10% off days per year, but only for certain people now it seems.

I feel that it's not right. Yes buying from the store is all fine and dandy, however we all pay membership fees and buy into local events in order to support the club. In reality half of the money raised from this goes to what the owner calls "store fees" and is pathetic. Lately more and more of us have been considering getting a hall once a week to play. We think it would be about the same cost as playing there without the stupid rules, plus we all have a ton of scenery and tables.
