What's with the 8-man movement trays? *laugh*

McRage
09-01-2009, 01:36 PM
8 man movement trays because his heavy weapons teams make up the ten total men in the squad and are pretty easy to maneuver on their own. Love the trays by the way. Guard in lines are always more intimidating. I like your Vanquisher, very clean conversion that gets the point across.

I like the non typical cadian colors you have on the tank... Im probably going to go about my cadians the same way. I cant stand the GW cadian camo pattern on the tanks its too much

I think its best answered with a subtle tone like yours

yeah i agree, some camo schemes don't really work on tanks, i find they look better in a simple 1 tone colour scheme, as long as you pick out all the details and at least a small amount of weathering they always look good.

Great looking army! I might have missed it, but did you airbrush the camo on the tank? It looks very well blended otherwise.

I really like the camo patterns on the troops, all very similar, the way a mass issued force would look!

I love how the army looks, especially in those movement trays... I always thought those things were stupid, but you have certainly shown me a different perspective.
Two questions: Can we get a close up on the command squad in the trays you put together, and what are you using for the cammo netting you have over some of the heavy weapons and on the tank?

I have to say, I like the army. My only criticism is that you could do with a little more groundwork on the bases, some of them look a bit barren or only 3/4 painted/done.

Otherwise, I like the army as a whole quite a bit. Where do you plan to go from here? More armoured support, more 'legs, or just move on to another army?

I continue to be impressed about how well your army is coming along. I really like the mortar men. Is that an aiming post (red and white) in the middle mortar team? I am an artillery man myself and seeing that just caught my attention because we use those nowadays... I can imagine that even 40000 years from now they will probably still be using them!
I really like the bitz that you have spread out around their positions.
Are these a custom conversion from the Cadian Heavy Weapons Squad, or are they some older model?
Either way, they look great!

Great idea. The Gepard is a perfect choice (integral 'dar dome). I was considering one of the old ZSU's myself, but I think yours is better.

Those Chinese knock-off model manufacturers are a trip. They actually "reverse engineer" the higher quality kits (like Tamiya) by creating an injection mold through casting the Tamiya sprue directly, and then sell it for 1/2 the price. Wild that they get away with it.

I have found the guts of many ink pens have a long plastic ink reservoir which is almost identical in diameter to the Cadian Heavy Weapon autocannons. There's also the tried-and-true-and-cheap dowel rod.

Look forward to seeing your progress on this.

This should e an interesting conversion. I would like to see what the sprue looks like beforer you get started, just to get an idea of what sort of work is going to go into this.
I am thinking of trying to find some non GW stuff to create some unique attachments for battlewagons, and bikes and such. I am thinking that Ebay might be the way to go!

one suggestion for the camo netting, rather than buying it off Ebay you could just use the plastic orange netting that oranges come in. miniwargaming.com did a tutorial on making fences from the stuff and it should work pretty well for camo netting.... just a thought. keep up the good work.

I take it you mean the exaust covers?

If you take a look at any military vehicle that has them (a good example is any German WW2 armor) you see that in most cases the paint doesnt tend to last very long. The heat and corrosive gases created by the exausts tends to burn the paint off and they tend to take a battering during maintance, everyday use etc.
Towards the end of the war they stoped painting them altogether, its a waste of time and paint. Thats the effect I was going for. Dirty, rusty, metal.

Maks sense to me.

Updates anytime soon?

I like what you're doing with the Gepard (Cheetah) parts. But wouldn't it save you some hassle if you just use plastic or metal tubing to make the barrels, rather than sticking several parts together and having to get rid of the seams? (yes, I'm lazy... ;) )

Cryl: I cant scratchbuild for toffee, so I needed a base to work with. It made sense to me to use an existing SPAAA and Gepard was my first choice over 2S6 and ZSU23/4. I did look at Sgt. York but that wouldnt have worked.

I was just lucky to find a 1/48th scale kit. 1/35 would have been way to big.

Im just re starting 40k from an absence since 3rd edition and awaiting 2 orders to arrive. If I had known sooner I could get rid of all my B5 first and second edition rpg books.

They look awesome, my guard have unfortunately gone back in their case for a while as all this Blood Angel codex talk has caught my interest and I want to get as many of my existing models painted before new ones are added.

That is REALLY impressive. Very, very cool.

You just don't see yellow toasters like that every day! Awesome!

The incredibly well-painted models are sorta' neat as well

Really though, Ive always liked the sense of "action" the poses of your troops convey. Individually your infantry has a unique identity even though they are uniformly camouflaged...good lesson for a novice like myself.

If you do want to paint all day take regular breaks, like go for a shot walk, do some washing up, prep some lunch, go online for an hour and prep and eat lunch and have a short walk and then go back painting.

Its taken me 3 days to do my partners wolf scouts all I have to do now is base them.
