The Battle of Atlanta 2011
Details
This Battle of Atlanta is a 2500 point WarHammer Fantasy event. The goal of the Battle of Atlanta is to provide a fun, but competitive environment for local players to test their Warhammer skills while enjoying a Sunday afternoon with friends. The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. on 6/26/2011. Players are expected to arrive by 9:00 a.m. for registration. The entry fee will be $20 and $15 for Rolling Bones Club members. Awards and prizes will be presented to the winners at the conclusion of the event.
Rules
General Rules
 The Battle of Atlanta will take place over 3 rounds with 2.5 hours for each round. Players may not begin a new turn after the 15 minutes left mark.
 Each round will be a pitched battle with special scenario-based objectives
 All models must be WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get). However, miniatures need not be produced by any particular corporation.
 Miniatures do NOT need to be painted, but every miniature needs to be fully assembled with all of the appropriate pieces and properly based. (Remember that painting will be judged and contribute to the overall score)
 The 8th edition of the rules will be used along with all of the current errata and Games Workshop FAQ's found on the Games Workshop web site.
 First round match ups will be randomly assigned the morning of the event. The subsequent four games will be parried using a Swiss System based on battle points.
 First-round challenges will be allowed between players, and must be declared during registration
 Each player must bring 3 copies of their army list. Amry lists must be done on either Excel/Open Office or Army Builder. ** The spell lore for each caster must be indicated on your army list.
 Each player will need to bring a copy of their army’s FAQ
Army Lists
All armies are to be no more than 2500 points. No special or named characters are allowed. Only armies from the following list will be allowed:
 Warhammer Armies: Bretonnia
 Warhammer Armies: Beasts of Chaos
 Warhammer Armies: Daemons of Chaos
 Warhammer Armies: Dark Elves
 Warhammer Armies: Dwarfs
 Warhammer Armies: Empire
 Warhammer Armies: High Elves
 Warhammer Armies: Lizardmen
 Warhammer Armies: Ogre Kingdoms
 Warhammer Armies: Orcs and Goblins
 Warhammer Armies: Skaven
 Warhammer Armies: Tomb Kings
 Warhammer Armies: Vampire Counts
 Warhammer Armies: Warriors of Chaos
 Warhammer Armies: Wood Elves
 Ravening Hordes: Chaos Dwarfs
The organizers are checking all lists to ensure they are “Legal. But that does NOT mean that your army list is "APPROVED". It just didn't make us physically ill. “Legal” and “Approved” are not the same things. No one is required to like playing against it, or to like you for bringing it. If you bring the pain, keep your gob shut when people cast their bad game votes accordingly. (Please see the Sportsmanship section for more info).

Magic Items
The following magic items will not be allowed at the Battle of Atlanta: 1) Power-Scroll, 2) Book of Hoeth and 3) The Folding Tower. All other items may be used as normal.

Terrain
The Battle of Atlanta will follow the standard rules for Line-of-Sight and terrain with the following modifications: units over 40 models will not be able to enter or control buildings, all forests are mysterious, all hills and other terrain are normal.
Scoring
Scoring at the Battle of Atlanta will focus on three elements of play in order to determine who goes home with the prizes. Every player will be scored on the basis of their ability to play the game, play a fun game, and paint their army.

Players can score a maximum of 100 points, broken down as follows:
Battle Points 60
Sportsmanship Points 20
Army Appearance Points 20
The Battle of Atlanta awards will be as follows:
• Overall Champion – Battle points + Sportsmanship points + Appearance points
• Best General – Total Battle point
• Best Sportsmanship – Total Sportsmanship points
• Best Army – Total Appearance points
• The General Hood Spirit Award – Lowest battle points
Players will be able to win only one award, so if a player wins in two categories he will be given the higher award.

Battle Points (15-60)
Every participant will be able to earn a maximum of 20 Battle points per game:
Win 15
Tie 10
Loss 5
Strategic Objective 5
In every game played at the Battle of Atlanta, one needs to score 101 more victory points than their opponent in order to win a game. In addition to winning each game, players will be able to score up to 5 additional battle points by achieving the objectives defined in the scenario.
*GIGA-SIZED VICTORY: At Gigabytes, we play for fun, not for a measly 101 victory points. If the margin of victory is less than 500 points in a game, the winning player must subtract two points from their score. Likewise, the losing player would add 2 points to their score. (i.e. a 499 point win would be worth 13 battle points, a 499 point loss is worth 7)
Soft Scores Overview
The average score of both Sportsmanship and Appearance is 10 points putting the absolute top score no more than 10 points away from the average score. 10 points is the difference between a win and a loss in battle points. This will have the effect of making the soft scores important without turning the Battle of Atlanta into a beauty or popularity contest.
Sportsmanship points (0-20)
Sportsmanship is about having a good game. There are a thousand things that can make a game good or bad, and no one can list them all. However, it is easy to tell if a game was good or bad and pretty much everyone can agree on it, so for the Battle of Atlanta, sportsmanship will focus on if the game was good or bad. One of the most common reasons for a good or bad game is army composition. At the Battle of Atlanta, the composition of one's army will be a direct reflection on their attitude towards their opponent. Composition is the sportsmanship you display before the minis hit the table. As such, Composition has been combined with Sportsmanship into a single score. If you had a bad game because of your opponent's comp, mark him down for a bad game. If you had a good game regardless of your opponent's comp, give him a good game mark regardless of how you would score his comp under a traditional system.

Base Points
We assume that everyone coming to the Battle of Atlanta will be a good sport and because the average score is 10, we will give them those 10 points on credit because we think they will keep them.
Start with 10
After each game the players will have one question on the score sheet which asks, "Did your opponent's behavior and/or army selection honestly make this a bad game for you?" If someone receives a yes then they will have to give back some of those points given on credit.
1 bad game mark -2 points
2 bad game mark -5 points
3 bad game mark Sportsmanship score of zero
These are not cumulative modifiers. Only the lowest applicable modifier will be applied. Unlike a simple linear system, each vote is not worth the same. Everyone might have one bad game. But when someone is rude over multiple games there is something going on and it should cost them more, and under this scoring system it will cost them much more.

No one should be worried about being dinged out of spite which is so prevalent in other systems because this system focuses on the consensus of all three of ones opponents. While one bad vote will cost you points it cannot knock you out of the running because of its small worth. However, when someone scores poorly over several games it is usually their own fault and they deserve what they get. On the flip side, if someone gives you a bad game or has a bad army then don't hold back and be honest about it, one bad game won't hurt them much at all. They will have to have several bad games in order really get dinged, and if that happens, they deserve it.

Red Card
Judges will be empowered to hand out a Red Card to any player who acts in an egregious manner that is unbecoming to the Battle of Atlanta or the Giga-Bites community. Each Red Card will act as an EXTRA bad game mark. Red cards may be handed out for terribly unsporting armies as well.

Best Sport Vote Points
At the end of the tournament everyone will vote for their best opponent. The question will read, "I certify that ______ provided me with the best game of the weekend. His attitude and army selection were outstanding." As with bad game votes, the value of each best game vote goes up dramatically the more of them you get:
1 best game vote +2 point
2 best game votes +5 points
3 best game votes +10 points
The remaining Base Points (after bad game deductions) will be added to the Best Sport Votes to determine the total sportsmanship points.

Appearance (0-20)
One judge will score every army in the Battle of Atlanta. The appearance award is just that, it is about the appearance of your army. Technical painting is important but conversions, theme, basing and overall presentation are just as important to what makes an army look good and score well in this category.
An average army that is fully painted (3 color min) will score 10 points. Armies are scored against an objective standard and not on an arbitrary curve. Therefore it will be extremely hard for any army to score in the 18-20 range.

An army with anything unpainted 0-10
A standard 3-color painted army 10-13
Tournament Competitive 14-17
Superior 18-20
