Help with Black Templars Drop pod

Here is the question i have. In the space marines codex when talking about drop pods it says that you have to deep strike half of your drop pods rounding up in the first turn...however in the black templars codex it says nothing about the half of them in the first turn business...it says to use the normal deep strike and reserves rules. Ive always heard you cant mix codexes so the way ive played it when using black templars is normal reserve and deep strike rules. Would that be the way it would be played tournament play? Thoughts...opinions?
