In Memoriam of 9/11

General Update:
This week, like all of the other previous weeks has been very busy. We have finally finished assembly of the Eldar Phantom Titan. Painting is already past the base coating stage and is moving on to the details (Thank the emperor for airbrushes!). I also ordered more than 50 8x4 sheets of plywood to use as our table tops. Most tournament/Conventions will simply put an 18"x6'' table up against a 30"6'' table to make the standard 4'x6' table. This is a decent solution, but it will often leave a noticable crack in between the two tables where models can (and do) tip over. We wanted feast of have a greater standard, and as such... I went and bought all that plywood. Hopefully it is appreciated by the players.

The missions for the tournaments are written and complete at this point, we are working on some final play-testing touches to try and make sure that there aren't any gross-errors. All said we have been slaving ourselves to play as many games of 40k (and all our other systems) as possible. Do you see what hard work we do for you all ;).

We have hosted 'terrain days,' to pump out tons of terrain. Personally I am still licking my wounds from de-treeing several boxes of "imperial sector," sprues. All said we are really excited about the terrain we are making for this event. It will all be up to 5th edition standards and will be 25% coverage with many pieces blocking full line of sight.

FOCUS ON: 40k Open GT (Sat-Sun)

We all know about the invitational 40k Tournament, but lets just put that aside for a moment or two and talk about the 40K OPEN GT.

Missions:
The 40K Open will be 7 games (4 saturday, 3 Sunday). It will be a battle points tournament with Primary, Secondary and Tertiary mission objectives. These will be very similar in format to the missions you are used to in the Qualifier round and other GT's. The whole point of these missions is to have a great tournament with some twists to the missions to keep the whole weekend interesting, while still allowing the best players to rise to the top. We will not be releasing the missions before hand, but if you want practice it isn't a bad idea to play the qualifier missions over again.

How do we determine best overall?
The weighting to determine best overall will be 70% battle Points, 20% appearance, 10% sportsmanship. Apperance will be judged using our 'painting rubric,' which can be found on our home page (Painting Rubric link) ( https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0Bwv4A2MZxWOnZWFiNmNjZmItNTI4My00MTU3LWI4NDg tMTMxMmU4YTViZTU4&hl=en_US&authkey=CMG5tp4L ) . This tournament will be fully prize supported at Best Overall, Best General, Best Appearance and Best sportsmanship.

Why would I want to play in this event?
Let's say you didn't qualify for the invitational but you still want to play in a well run, competitive event. Maybe your buddy qualified and is dragging you with him to Denver. Or perhaps you just want to play a more 'casual-competitive,' style of 40k and you want a chance to actually win something. This is also a great event if your a 'basement-league,' gamer who wants to get their feet wet in the tournament scene, or an old ringer who wants to dust off his 40k stuff.

Achievments!
We have been hard at work developing a Xbox Live 'achievements,' system. While playing your games in the 40K open GT you will have the ability to win prizes and swag based on doing random things during your game. For Example, if you have one unit earn 5 kill points (during one game) in close combat alone then you will win the "Brass Knuckles," achievment and we will give you a high quality hand made purity seal and maybe some other swag. There is no reason why you should leave Feast of Blades empty handed!

this event ticket will also get you into all of our side games and raffle prizes (With the exception of the team tournament)

FOCUS ON: 40k CHARiTY Doubles Tournament (Fri)
This will benefit the Wounded Warrior Charity.
Missions:

The missions will be kept simple with deployments found in the basic rule book and modified slightly for theme. Scoring will be determined based on the battle point modifier system. (70/20/10)

Winners:

Sure it's for charity, but that doesn't mean we can't give out some awesome prizes to our winners. The categories are as follows: Best Overall, Best General, Best Painted, Best Team Spirit, and Best Giver(yes you can just buy one an award, but given the cause we felt it was ok.)

Achievements:

Just like in our other events, there will also be prizes handed out during the rounds for accomplishments achieved during a mission. Some examples are: "Lose over 50% of your models and still win the mission, first one to explode a vehicle by rolling 6 to hit/6 to pen/6 for a result. The complete list of these accomplishments will be revealed in the events final packet.

Asset gathering/ Fund Raising:

What's this? Have you ever wished you could re-roll that critical dice at that critical time? Well now for a nominal fee you can! In the asset gathering phase your team will be able to purchase a variety of special bonuses to be used during your games. After your games you can share a cold drink with your opponents via the "Beer" asset, redeemable for one beer at the Bar. Clearly you have to be 21 to DRINK this asset. Why are we offering this potentially confusing new gimmick? Well, I'm glad you asked. 100% of all money raised from assets will go to increase our overall donation to the WWP. But wait are you concerned about some guy spending all that money to make his list unbeatable? well the answer is two fold. First, its for charity and the solider walking again will be grateful beyond words for that donation. Second, there are going to be offensive and defensive assets to help off-set somebody getting out of control. Once example of this is the "veto," asset. This asset allows you to completley deny the use of one single asset during the game... Remember, this all goes to charity so be loose and free with the asset buying!

Teams and army makeup:

Each team will consist of two players with two armies. Each army will be 100% completely independent of the other. (i.e. no sharing of special rules what so ever. Buffs and de-buffs with the same name do not stack between teams and opponents. More to come in the FAQ)

Each army will have the minimum of 1 HQ, 1 Troops and a max of 1,000 points to spend in the FoC. The armies will be sharing their teams' FoC. (i.e.: 2/3/6/3/3, and yes Space Wolves players still benefit from their HQ bonus for their army only.) (again more to come in the FAQ)

Money:

We are selling tickets for $50 per team, and up to 100% of the entry fees will be added to our total donation. If you cannot participate in the event and still want to support us please visit our Wounded Warrior Donation page and send money directly to them. Follow this link to that site (Wounded Warrior Donation Link) ( https://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=308932&supId=328691285 )

Thank you:

This event has really special meaning to all of us at Feast of Blades, and we can tell you from personal experience that this organization deserves as much support as possible. Please come by and show that support at the Con, and once again if you cannot make the event then donate online via the link above.
