Hey folks,

I've recently started making my own gaming table and I finished the first piece of terrain to go on it. The board is predominantly made with cork on a wooden chasis, and it's nearly finished. The only thing that remains to be done, is to aply a some black, strong laque paint to the sides:

The idea is to make a board for WHFB with a skaven theme to it, to match my recently painted up skaven. So I'm going to make an old empire town that has been overrun by the ratmen and they "nested" in this place.

Now ofcourse, the skaven would need a damn good reason to occupy this territory for long, so I decided to mimic the Mordheim storyline somewhat, and to make this empire town (needs a name yet, I'm running low on creative juices aka wiskey) the site of a recent meteor from Morrslieb crash.

This would mean the entire area is scattered with chunks of raw warpstone and this attracts all sorts of unwanted attention and would set the scene for many battles and even storms of magic.

So I painted to forest like this:

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-r54peH5Tzww/TpWySDq3scI/AAAAAAAAAzg/jaAap7HoRtc/s800/WarpstoneForest2.jpg

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-fL2kAcunQBY/TpWyS3UGc-I/AAAAAAAAAzk/MJQ6Dn8cWxQ/s800/WarpstoneForest3.jpg

The idea is that a few chunks of the warpstone forced the trees into a supergrowth and twisted them in the proces. So I did some OSL around the base and made it match my own skaven army (I'll post some pics at a later date with my skaven in there, the batteries of my DSLR are just recharging).

Hope you like it!

Feedback and CC is apreciated as always

Very, very cool. Do the trees have lumps like that built into the bottom, or did you add them in yourself?

You did a really lovely job with the base of the forest as well. Kudos, and well done!

Those lumps that I painted as warpstone are part of the actual model. They are traditionally painted as regular stones however.

Thanks for the compliments btw. The actualy painting of the forest floor is done with my airbrush and by cheating with the armypainter quickshade medium tone ;)

But it works like a charm for this terrain. It's a good protective coat (something you'll really want for your terrain) and looks quite good. I'm thinking of picking up a can of the black quickshade to do the stonework on my future building as well. It's easy to use, fast and dries to a rockhard finish. :) You just need a good matt varnish to remove the shine afterwards.

Love it. Keep up the good work. One day when I actually finish the first 5000 points of Skaven I plan on trying something similar.

Great inspiration.

Definitely good work and very creative theme for your table. Look forward to seeing more posts and other pieces!
