Another test game for Eldar, this time putting them against my second strongest army, Imperial Guard. Let the battle of the mech vs mech commence!

Deployment

Annihilation & pitched battle

Turn 1

Flamer vets chimera moves 12” and gets cover from a ruin, flanking melta chimera follows and pops smoke. Demolisher moves 8” in total behind them. 2 devil dogs move 12” just outside terrain demolisher follows 11”. Spearhead chimera takes 2 terrain tests ok moves 12” supporting demolisher moves 11” behind into terrain. Devil dog and hellhound squad move 12” other side of ruin of spearhead attack, command chimera and supporting melta vets chimera moves 12”.

All devil dogs fire and miss, all roll 3s must think they are marines!

Falcon moves 24”, serpent follows moving 12”. Second serpent moves 12” blocks both devil dogs with side armour, falcon follows moving 24”. Prism moves 12” into terrain ok on terrain test. Scorpion serpent and supporting serpent move 12” down flank to “meet & greet” command squad and melta vets supporting them.

Serpent supporting falcon rolls 2 6s, one to hit the other to penetrate the demolisher behind flamer and melta chimera, luckily gets a cover save and passes. Scorpions serpent fires scatter lasers at hellhound but passes cover save as popped smoke.

Turn 2

Flamer vets chimera gets immobilised on terrain, melta chimera flanks it both eyeing up the falcon, demolisher behind them stays put and pops smoke. Devil dogs split away, one moves behind wave serpent blocking them, other passes terrain test and moves to side of falcon, both demolishers stay put. Hellhound enters terrain devil dog follows behind. Command squad chimera flanks forward, supporting melta chimera follows and goes into terrain.

Demolisher fires and hits serpent behind falcon by the flamer vets but scores no damage. Falcon is shot up by flamer and melta chimeras, is immobilized, crew stunned and shaken. Devil dog puts a hole in rear of serpent which attempted to block it, destroys it and scores first kill point, the flamer vets in chimera then burn 9 avengers! Demolisher fires and destroys other falcon scoring second kill point, other demolisher fires lascannon at solo avenger but passes cover save. Devil dog with hellhound attempts to melta serpent supporting scorpions, no good command chimera and supporting chimera do no damage on same target.

Solo avenger passes leadership test and jetbikes come on from reserve.

Fire dragons out of busted falcon move 2” into terrain for cover and target devil dog, fire prism moves away from approaching chimera. Rest of the units stay put. Other falcon is destroyed though as moved flat out last turn and was immobilized by the flamer and melta vets chimeras mass fire attack, supporting serpent now moves forward and bladestorm avengers bail out.

Avengers serpent pops flamer chimera then guns down vets with bladestorm leaving 4 left. Fire dragons pop demolisher scoring second kill point. Other dragons pop devil dog in terrain but loose two of their own in the explosion.

Turn 3

Devil dog rotates and eyes up avengers empty serpent, demolisher targets avengers while other demolisher moves out of a crater into ruin where wrecked devil dog is. Other devil dog moves 6” through terrain hellhound moves 6 as well.

Flamer vets unleash the flamer and kill 2 avengers after saves, demolisher fires at them too but scatters and misses. Melta vets supporting the flamer vets fire on last avenger in cover killing it and earning a kill point, melta vets chimera fires at fire dragons which popped the demolisher and kills all but one. Demolisher in terrain fires and scatters away from jetbikes but still hits one and kills it. Chimera leading the spearhead kills fire dragons which popped devil dog in terrain. Hellhound, devil dog and chimeras still stand off against scorpion serpent and supporting serpent and score no damage.

Flamer vets charge bladestorm avengers both score a kill in assault and remain locked in combat.

Solo dragon passes leadership test and moves to side of devil dog. Bladestorm avengers serpent moves side of melta vets chimera. Jetbikes move along side spearhead chimera. Fire prism moves 6” and targets side armour of devil dog with hellhound.

Solo dragon pops devil dog equaling kill points, avengers serpent destroys multi laser turret on melta vets chimera supporting the flamer vets and also scores crew stunned. Prism scores crew stunned on devil dog with hellhound, other serpents do nothing. Jetbikes fire at side of chimera leading the spearhead and score no damage.

In combat the avengers and flamer vets score a draw.

Turn 4

Both remaining demolishers move forward and target jetbikes. Melta vets leading spearhead bail out chimera into terrain and target fire prism.

Both demolishers and chimera destroy the jetbikes earning a kill point for guard. Melta vets in terrain wreck prism earning another.

Avengers loose combat but pass morale.

Melta vets chimera supporting flamer vets is popped by brightlance from bladestorm avengers serpent. Melta vets chimera supporting the command squad is immobilised and weapon destroyed.

Turn 5

Melta vets in terrain saddle up back in the chimera, takes terrain test and is immobilized! Demolisher in terrain rolls 4” for movement and crashes through other side of ruin ready to assist the stand off between chimeras, devil dog, hellhound and the two serpents. Last demolisher moves into terrain 6” and targets solo fire dragon.

Demolisher targets solo dragon fires lascannon and hits but dragon makes cover save as part covered by chimera wreck. Melta vets which had their chimera popped previous turn get the job done and mass melta and kill the dragon, giving it a taste of its own medicine.

Brightlance from bladestorm avengers serpent does no damage on demolisher. Other 2 serpents score immobilised on melta vets chimera supporting command chimera, its already immobilised so the heavy bolter is destroyed.

Game goes to imperial guard 7 kill points to 6 for eldar.

awesome battle. 7-6 is a really close game.

I always cringe when I see Falcons and Prisms without holofields. That's what lost the Eldar player the game I think.

Not enough points for holo fields I'm afriad, though I would only take them on the falcons as the serpents have those fancy fields anyway.
