Trying to get a firm answer on how Loremaster affects spell selection.

Specifically, if I take Count Mannfredd in VC, then he has Loremaster- Vampire and Death. This means that he knows all of the spells from those Lores, no generation required.

However, spell selection states that I can take each spell only once in an army. Does this therefore mean that no other wizard in a VC army can generate spells? Or do I duplicate spells, thanks to Mannfredds special rule?

I'm asking because it has come up in games, where opponents have told me that since Mannfredd knows all of the spells other casters are redundant, which is definitely not how I understood the Lorwemaster ability to work.

Thanks for any insights.

I think your opponets are mostly right. However most wizards can always take spell number 1 or some other spell from their lore. Any time a wizard can always choose to take a specific spell that spell can be shared by other wizards. I think..

If a character has a special rule or item that causes them to know all spells within a lore, they are excluded from the calculation of duplicate spells.

@ Thiazi: yeah, that's what I'm being told, but I thought that Loremaster got round this? Can't find it in an FAQ tho...

@Foreigner: any idea where that rule can be found? Can't find it under Loremaster or in magic section.... It was my understanding of the rule tho?!?

Thanks for the responses guys

No, if you have a character with loremaster it takes them out of the rolling for spells selection which means your other wizards can duplicate spells.

Under spell selection right before the lores of magic it talks about rolling for spells. It says you can't duplicate spells between wizards unless a model has no choice over which spells they know. Loremaster means you know all the spells and have no choice, therefore they aren't counted for determining who can know a spell.

How does this impact with Teclis who has Loremaster for whatever spell school you choose to give him?

It's the same as any other model that has Loremaster or can purchase its spells - when you come to select spells for other models using the same lore you ignore Teclis.
