Been painting some Flames Of War recently. After about a year of painting my Panzergrenadier army on and off they are finished! I know I should probably be painting my Imperial Fists but I couldn't help but finish these guys first.

Thats 2000pts using the list in Earth and Steel. I've been tempted by Grey Wolf but Im not sure if it have any suitable lists.

The Commanders.

I know I'm meant to have a motorcycle for one of the transports but I didnt want to buy a whole box just to use one.

A couple of shots from the games I had earlier this week,

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/Flames%20Of%20War/ShermanAttack.jpg

The panzers arrived just in time to take the shermans out as they approached the objective.

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/Flames%20Of%20War/Panzergrenadiersbeforeairstrike.jpg

The grenadiers charged towards the american objective only to be taken out in one single airstrike.

Brother Sargent, Those look AWESOME! I'm just starting FOW and again, Those are some of the best troops I've seen. Could I get the paint colors that you used? I plan on doing Germans as well.
Thanks for your postings of a great looking force.

Glad you like them. What units do you want to know the colours for? I mostly used Vallejo. I got the Flames of war paint set but I can give you more detail if you need it.

Cheers!

Your army is so pretty it scared the paint right off of those Shermans!

Those are real nice, mate. Good weathering on the vehicles and guns! I'm not a huge fan of the dark base rims, but that's a minor quibble compared to a very nicely painted, and consistant army. Reminds me why I love this hobby: fully painted armies on a table of fully painted scenery!

Thanks guys.

Fully painted armies on a table filled with terrain is certainly what makes the hobby great for me. Unfortunately my friend hasn't started painting his Americans as he has been busy with his 40k army. But he has just got himself an airbrush so once its painted Im sure il have some more photos of our games to go on here.

Cheers!

I picked some half tracks up at Salute.

Here are a couple of WIP shots.

Apart from the crew these are nearly finished. I shall be paiting them as SS troops so Ive got to get some different paints before I can actually paint them.

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/Flames%20Of%20War/HalftracksPartPIP2.jpg

I've also added another objective to the army.

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/Flames%20Of%20War/DestroyedTigerObjective1.jpg

This all took a little longer to paint than planned as I got distracted making and painting some scenery. I've got a decent amount now and il get some photos the next time I play a game.

Cheers!

I've spent the past few weeks working on my table and finally got a few games on it last friday.

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/Flames%20Of%20War/NewBoard.jpg

I've ordered some buildings and have enough material to make some more bocage but Im taking a break to paint up some SS while I wait for the buildings to arrive.

We played three games in total. I won two. The one I lost was a very close game. The toughest mission was the final game of the day. Fighting withdrawal. How do you dig out british paratroopers!?! I managed in the end but boy it was tough.

Heres a couple of shots.

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/Flames%20Of%20War/TigerAmbush.jpg

Tigers are ambushed! The Brits bailed hit the side armour with there full rate of fire at close range, but only managed to bail a single tiger.

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/Flames%20Of%20War/PanzergrenadierCharge.jpg

Help quickly arrives from the panzergrenadiers.

From the few games we have played together it seems;

Tigers are near unstoppable. Some serious anti tank needs to be invested in.
Dug in Fearless Veteran Infantry and damn hard to shift!
Nebelwerfers are crap!

Unfortunately I've gone over the limit on my Photobucket account so I've started using my other account. The bandwidth should be back to normal soon and hopefully the new account will solve the problems.

Heres a few WIP shots to keep you going.

http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/rr212/michaelshaw55/Imperial%20Fists/Flames%20Of%20War/SSInfantryWIP.jpg

I got the SS Boxset for my birthday and have made, based and sprayed them all brown.

http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/rr212/michaelshaw55/Imperial%20Fists/Flames%20Of%20War/PanzerLehr.jpg

As the box came with some panzerschrecks and I now have a bunch of halftracks I've decided to paint these up if I ever want to field some Panzer Lehr.

Cheers!

Finished the Panzer Lehr Panzerschrecks. Combined with the half tracks I now have the option to field a panzer lehr army or a standard panzer grenadier army. You have got to love the amount of options available with this game.

http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/rr212/michaelshaw55/Imperial%20Fists/Flames%20Of%20War/PanzerLehr-1.jpg

After getting hold of a motorbike my command now has one,

http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/rr212/michaelshaw55/Imperial%20Fists/Flames%20Of%20War/2ICMotorbike.jpg

I've also made some progress on the SS army. The Pak40 platoon in particular,

http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/rr212/michaelshaw55/Imperial%20Fists/Flames%20Of%20War/SSTankHunters.jpg

I am hoping to use them in a game tonight hence the small amount of static grass. I've yet to paint the crew because I need to get some paint for the peadot camo.

Cheers!

Oh those airstrikes! I once had an entire Straf company annihilated in a similar fashion. Fortunately for me I had two more where that one came from!

shaw3029

The airstrikes can be a real pain but my AA seems to be pretty effective at dealing with any planes.

Recently Ive been side tracker with 40k. But I have done some Flames Of War scenery. Two hills,

http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/rr212/michaelshaw55/Imperial%20Fists/Flames%20Of%20War/FOWHills.jpg

I also have a small village which I shall be showing off soon.

All looking really amazing, almost inspires me to finally get around to painting my Panzergrenadier Lehr... if I wasn't sidetracked as well currently by Infinity.

I'm assuming those all are BF models (or at least look like them), how'd you deal with the large metal infantry bases? If looks like you you clipped them off, or is that just a really good pumice job?

shaw3029
08-09-2012, 05:28 AM
They are all battlefront apart from the half tracks. I mostly sanded the bases down or clipped parts off.

Cheers.

Long time no post!

I got together a whole new SS army undercoated and ready for painting along with a whole village ready to be mounted up and painted. But then..... I got side tracked with the new edition of 40k.

I played a couple of games today against my friends British armour. It was his first game of Flames Of War despite him collecting it for the last six years he finally has 1000pts of British armour. HQ in Cromwells with attached AA, Two platoons of Cromwells with Fireflys and a unit of 2 M10s. I took my HQ, Two platoons of Panzer Grenadiers, Anti Aircraft guns and a unit of Panzer 1V's.

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/Flames%20Of%20War/PanzerGrenadiersVSBritishArmour.jpg

Ignore the Panzers and AA as they deployed in Ambush later. The rest of my units were held in reserve.

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/Flames%20Of%20War/PanzerGrenadiersVSBritishArmour1.jpg

The brits stormed down the road to claim the first objective before my reserves could arrive.

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/Flames%20Of%20War/PanzerGrenadiersVSBritishArmour2.jpg

But the Panzer 1V's sprung a deadly ambush and destroyed the whole platoon in one devastating round of fire.

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/Flames%20Of%20War/PanzerGrenadiersVSBritishArmour3.jpg

Our armour traded shots for several turns before the infantry closed in to finish the job after the Panzers failed there moral.

In the end the Infantry won the day.

Cheers!

Cheers guys,

Recently finished up some terrain for the board.

http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/rr212/michaelshaw55/Flames%20OF%20War/FoWTerrain1.jpg

Ploughed crop fields.

http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/rr212/michaelshaw55/Flames%20OF%20War/FoWTerrain3.jpg

Some ponds from Flames Of War which I airbrushed and then added some water effect onto it.

Also quickly painted up this church,

http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/rr212/michaelshaw55/Flames%20OF%20War/FoWTerrain2.jpg

The church and walls are from,

http://www.sentinelminiaturepainting.net/Pages/ForSale.aspx

I created a base for it and added some graves and a war memorial from peter pig.

http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/rr212/michaelshaw55/Flames%20OF%20War/FoWTerrain4.jpg

Hope you like it.

Cheers!

Nice work. By any chance if the ploughed field corrugated cardboard?

I do really like the church. I would say that the graves are a bit far apart, but if they weren't you wouldn't get many infantry bases between them lol. The two-tone grey you've used is really effective though.

shaw3029
10-19-2012, 04:40 PM
They are indeed corrugated card, easy and quick to make.

I had to spread the grave stones out so I could fit a infantry base in between them. I like the idea of the units running through a grave yard under fire. Should look cool in a game.
