I have to admit that I'm not impressed. Female minis - frankly, female representations in nerdery - exist on a continuum between "awesome" and "sexualized beyond all reason." These minis aren't all the way on the awkward side. They wouldn't turn me off to a minis line I was already into. But I wouldn't seek them out.

They're good, I remember my first kickstarter adventure, It all began a while ago. On the site commonly known as the book of face, where a small independent band was raising funds to release it's third album. I pledged and got a digital copy as soon as recorded, an early pre-release copy of the special edition cd, and an epic exclusive to backers t-shirt, oh and listed in the special thanks bit... I don't know if they'll run it the same as Reaper and the CMON Kickstarters, but those will have pledge managers that allow you to add to your pledge after they take the initial amount. These have been slated for a possible 2-6 week period after the event, with a month of being open to allow people time to work out what they want.

This means that if you don't have enough for when the pledge is initially taken, you may be able to add to it after saving for a couple more months, but you should definitely check if that's still the case with this one.

So Bombshell Babes as been updated with some WIP shots of the models...

Maelee:

I'm just going to come out and say it... I think those heads are way too big. It's especially obvious on Betty as she hasn't got hair yet.

Maelee's face doesn't match the drawing either, she's supposed to have a cute little button nose and a round face, but it's too oval. That said, I doubt I could sculpt anywhere near as well, let alone transpose from a drawing... but still.

If this is what the final models will look like I think I'll hold off of backing this one.

It's not as bad as you would expect actually, I went through this with the Raging Heroes Blood Vestals. In the close up pictures like this the heads look oversized but when you actually see them in person/painted they seem in proportion. You could always raise your concerns on the KS and see what their response is.:)

I did have a look at the comments on the update this was included in, and actually plenty of people have raised the same issue. Someone has even pointed out what you've said here, about the scale seeming off so close up. But I still think that Maelee's face is too oval and mature looking. I'd have to see her a bit further down the line, but I do think Betty's head is just a smidge too big as well. Hopefully we'll see if they take on their feedback soon, before the KS ends.

To be fair the guy is doing a first class job, female faces are horribly hideous to sculpt well.

And by well, I mean, symmetrical cheeks, cheek height and to make sure it looks good from the side. Even when things sculpting wise were going well for me I was lucky to have three heads out of every ten I sculpted work out for me, now I just seem to be stuck in an infinite loop of fail.

The overall head to body ratio on these do not bother me, they're very nicely done overall and the poses are excellent.

I can appreciate that, I've never tried to sculpt a face but I realise it's the most difficult bit to get right, I'm just disappointed as she's supposed to be the Kickstarter special mini and I really like the drawing. The body is perfect, it's just the face which isn't quite right.

I just feel that she could do with having the time spent on her to get her exactly like the image, as she's going to be the main draw for many people.

I just checked out Kicktraq (http://www.kicktraq.com/projects/bombshellminis/bombshell-babes/#chart-daily), is it just me or have those work in progress sculpts killed it? I quite like Raven Skye actually, if I did pledge and got a couple of babes along with it I'd be tempted to pick her up. Only $1,000 til they reveal some more figures, hopefully that might pick it up again. Hopefully we might see some progress on the sculpts too.

I think it's other problem is they're being very conservative with the freebies for their flagship pledge level. Compared to all the stuff others have chucked in it looks a little light at the half way stage.

Now this could be that other KS projects have gotten carried away and promised too much but it compares less favourably.

I do think we've been spoiled by the Reaper, I think Relic Knights and Sedition Wars may be been provoked into offering a lot as well. Probably the 'moar' attitude will wear off as those fade from memory. I certainly haven't gotten the same buzz from any KS since those two, this was the closest I've got.

Yeah I think you're right. When I looked up Patrick Keith I found his portfolio but he seemed primarily to be a sculptor so I figured that was what his name was there for. However following the link to larger images of the concepts, it does look like he's the artist.

And from what I've seen, a lot of Sodapop's concepts are outsourced to people on Deviant Art. Which is nice.

It's been a while since we posted the whole list of choices. So I'm posting the whole list of choices. These are all the Babes available for Babe slots at present, with some options that are at time of writing still locked, but when they are reached it will mean the highest level pledges won't have to double up.

Actually looking at it, we have reached ***** Patrol. So it's just the last three revealed at the moment that need unlocking.

They also said that the next silhouette will be revealed when they get the results of a poll as to what 'reinforcements' add on to unlock first.

Thank you all for making Mira and Belphegor a reality. Having designed this particular character myself it is very encouraging to know that you all value the addition of her to our Babes line. It is ironic that we are now at 666 backers to get Inquisitor Mira into the mix!

Oh and they're also adding Sidekick Level two as an optional extra... which is when I noticed we haven't posted Sidekick Level one... so here's all the additional support options...

One last thing... after $80,000 is hit, the next Stretch is supposed to be a backer voted support option, so here are the potential candidates:

I want a Werewolf in a top hat. And the Clockwork fire brigade

If they've got this concept art, and they don't make the targets for certain things, would they release them in the future

of course the werewolf should have a monocle as well if it's having a top hat...

Some more work on Betty:

I'm man enough to admit I was wrong about the size of her head, I think when this mini is painted she will look gorgeous.

I'm hoping he may take the feedback about Maelee and provide something new for us soon too. He's taken the picture off that everyone objected to and replaced it with an older one, I'm taking that to mean that he's listening.

Not sure if you had seen it, but one of the people who was tracking the Reaper Kickstarter (and did a pretty fair job of projecting the final number) had said that this one would probably get up to $250K or so by the time it was done. Since most the goals are purchased as opposed to free add-ons, that would mean another 30 or so stretch goals?

Just something to think about.

I'd love it to be that successful, but I don't really see it reaching that much to be honest. Kicktraq has it at $108k, so even factoring in the last minute pledgers in the last 3 days I wouldn't have thought it'd double it's projection.

Is he sculpting them on his own or is he getting other sculptors to do some of them? I thought it was just the one guy doing this so I'm concerned about him over stretching himself. I really want this line to do well, but if there are too many stretch goals between now and the end he's going to have a hard time getting them all done to the same high quality before the moulds need to be made.

Kicktraq has been shown to be wrong more often than right with these types of campaigns, and Bob's numbers have been shown to be pretty damn good both on the miniature campaigns and the others which he has given a number on.

The sculpting, as far as I know is primarily being done by Patrick, though they have two other sculptors listed on their contributors page. One is for the pets and other companions, the other doesn't specify what he will be doing - though he has sculpted at least one figure for Reaper. Delivery isn't until January, and while it sounds like a lot...when you can actually focus on sculpting (i.e. - you have a few grand in the bank to pay the bills) I have seen sculptors turn out a completed figure each day (mind you...it isn't quite one a day because of cure times and all that - but it ends up being roughly that).

He has finished two figures and has three others on his workbench which can be seen in the background of the pictures he posts. That is with the normal distractions of day to day activity and running the Kickstarter campaign as well (plus finishing up existing contracts like the Reaper figure).

After the greens are complete, the mold making is less than a day...even if there are dozens of them. The big slow down is with waiting on the vulcanization process - which will vary some depending on the mold material used, but most of the time you are looking at 2 hours per mold or so. Each mold would hold a dozen or more figures. Casting...well, I am not sure about Valiant's speed on that - but Reaper has said that their metal casters are able to do 7000 a day, so I would probably put Valiant at some where less than that. At $250K you would probably be looking at 30-40,000 items though, so a week or two worth of casting. Then of course a week or two of sorting and boxing...

I don't think it should be much of a problem, and to be honest I would be surprised if it was much lower than the $250K mark. Granted, when I found the comment again - he said $200-250K. $250K may have been wishful thinking on my part.

Miniature kickstarters do have a tendency to double or nearly double in the last week, often more. So 200-250k is a reasonable feasible amount.

Sean O'Brien, I bow to your superior knowledge

It sounded to me like a tall order, but put like that it sounds doable!

For those who don't know, here are the choices for the survey:

And the survey can be found here (http://polldaddy.com/poll/6561204/).

Also, new Babes revealed coming up, they seem cool:

Still not fully certain what the reinforcements are meant to be though.

Originally, they had goal numbers under them - some of the numbers had been past (Atomic Punks and Professor and Thule were met IIRC). Then, he switched those out with question marks around the $60K mark in the campaign. Unfortunately, moving the goal posts in the middle of a game isn't a popular thing to do. I know there were a few posts of people who jumped in on the Punks or Professor specifically. Now to have those off the table again...well, that can lead to some significant rage (wouldn't even specify nerd rage on that, as it is a little bit of a bait and switch).

I need some help as a Kickstarter noob. I get that I need to add 12 dollars for international shipping, and I've found the 'manage your pledge' page. My question is how do I make it so that the extra money I add is for postage and not to take me up to the next reward level?

When you click on the 'Back this project button', it'll ask you how much you want to pledge and what reward level. As long as what you pledge is higher than the minimum required for the level, it's ok.

So say you want the Bomb Kit level (3 babes, Maelee, t-shirt and postcards) you pledge $87 ($75 +$12 postage), and then select 'Bomb Kit' from the reward levels. It'll then take you through and ask you to sign into Amazon, select the card it'll come from at the end of the Kickstarter, and then you're done.

The money won't come out til the project ends (October the 5th in this case), so if you decide to change your pledge between now and then you can, although I'd advise against changing it too close to the end game as KS has a habit of going into meltdown when a popular kickstarter ends and has been known to boot people out of the campaign.

Happy Kickstarting :D

P.S Here's a thought for TDA and BoLS at large, maybe we should have a forum space for Kickstarters? It'd solve the question of where to fit them in when people want to publicise them :)
