Ah, I've just finished my first drop pod and let me say I underestimated that model! It took much longer than expected.

Also pushing through a bunch of other models:

It all looks really good. Just one thing though. I feel your Blood Ravens are a little to bright red. I thought that they were a little more of a mundane red.

You're right about that. I made an executive decision and used bright highlights on the scab red (which is dark enough by itself) because I wasn't able to get decent highlights without bright reds. It's just that I don't have the skill to do it right yet... one day!

The drop-pod is a bit of a pig to put together and paint but it does look great.

I like the Blood Ravens chapter and you have done a great job on yours...I think the red looks good bright.

Awesome painting. The red look crisp and the highlights are spot on. Keep the good work up. Also nice conversion work on the models. I always find that the little things make the most impact.

You've taken a great paintscheme and executed it beautifully. Crisp highlights, good tones and great attention to detail. I'm looking forward to seeing the completed army soon :D

Geez, it has been a while since I started this thread. Not enough work has been done - too much Xbox! :)

Anyway, thought I'd add my latest model. Nothing fancy here but I'm happy with how it turned out.

I've never been a fan of Rhinos but not that I've actually painted one up I think I've changed my mind about that.

Your pieces are very well done and you should be proud of your painting skills, they are pretty top notch! I'm sure it took a good long time to get them done, but I hope that we can see more of them soon!!

Thanks for great comments, guys! :)

I'm hoping to finish of an Ironclad Dreadnought fairly soon so hopefully I'll have new pics up in the next week or so.

C&C are always welcome! Also, if anybody has any experience with weathering powders please let me know! I used them for the first time on the Rhino and it really did look fantastic but as soon as I sprayed on the Dullcote half of the detail disappeared!

Lerra

Did you apply the weathering powder using mineral spirits, or dry? I've heard that if you apply them dry, most of it will blow away from the dullcote. I have only tried the mineral spirit method and I haven't had many problems with it.

Le Scriv
11-26-2009, 08:18 PM
Ah, see I've been applying them dry to get the dusty effects. I was under the impression that using mineral sprits was good for achieving rust stains and the like but not so much for a dusted look?

Does that sound like nonsense? I'll re-read Forgeword Masterclass book but if you have any other tips I'd be very grateful!

You might have just inspired me to use a Blood Raven paint scheme. I love the contrast between the dark red and the white. You just made my life a lot more difficult.

Just came up on GW's blog.

The rhino's great, very nice chipping and weathering despite the mishap.

@Rapture: Happens to me all the time! :) Everytime I see Imperial Fists or Crimson Fists I want to start another army...

@person person: Hmm they use thinner... I wonder what kind. I have acrylic thinner I wonder if that will do.

To be honest I'm not a big fan of that version of the Blood Ravens logo which is why I went for custom decals.

Isn't he awesome? Just picked him up from a GW store after seeing it online but I'm looking through the site and I can't see him anymore! Might be worth dropping by your local store to see if they have them on the shelves (in a blister pack.) That's a shame coz I wouldn't mind having one or two more of that model...

Dude, it takes me aaaaggeeess to paint them and even then they are massively flawed.Thank you though. I don't play the game at all so I have no real rush to get them painted so take my time. If you use your minis it's a totally different ball game. I'm ashamed of mine everytime I go to cool mini or not heh.

So another (very late) update to this small army. I've finally finished my second tactical squad (already had 5 finished but it's taken me 6 months to finish the other 5!).

Yes, the librarian's base is awful. An experiment gone bad :) I'll re-base him at some point. Re. The armour colour of the Librarian: I've tried to match the pale blue used for librarians in Dawn of War 2 rather than go for the ultramarines blue of others.

It's in another thread already and I hate to double post but it'll bring everything back into this thread rather than several others.

The dreadnought conversion I had been working on. Just an AoBR dread with some modifications. I couldn't get a good angle on this one - this shot makes the paint look thick and yucky... the light is all wrong (my painting couldn't be at fault surely ;)).

Thanks, dude! Very much appreciated but far from the truth ;) It all helps to make me feel less guilty for letting the models sit around unpainted for so long.

Dreadnaught is fantastic. Bad photography cannot hide the quality here.

Neat, clean, well executed, good detail and a great pose, whats not to like?

I would be honored to be crushed by this army. The painting is excellent on all of them, but I especially like the tactical marines. The highlighting on the red armor almost looks likes it's glowing.

Wow, thanks for all the great comments folks! Totally unexpected! I spend a lot of time lurking around the forums looking it other peoples painted minis just looking for ideas so half the reason I upload the pics is to give others something to look at (is it just me or have these forums been pretty quiet the past few months?).

You know, I've still never played a game of WH40K so It's highly likely I'd be the one getting crushed! :)

On the plus side the new* model doesn't require as many rubber bands when building.

* It was new when I put it together...
