I'm really stoked for this Hobbit stuff, but some of those prices seem....awfully high. Doesn't seem to mesh with the other LotR stuff being of more value for the money, model wise.

I'm just excited to see what is being produced, but the prices have me rankling a bit.

I can't say muchdue to Non-Disclosure Policy etc but that list is probably a good guide to go by. I've got my Hobbit stuff ready and it'll be going online at 11:59pm THIS Friday over on my site at http://www.greendragongames.co.uk/ - if anybody orders any Hobbit stuff from me, PM me and I'll throw in a small freebie item for Bell of Lost Souls people.

Also, I would imagine that retailers like myself and others will be doing it at a good 25% off RRP :) - So excited! Make sure you check out White Dwarf too for a full breakdown of whats happening :)

Just as a heads up, got all my Hobbit products online at various % off RRP. Limited Editions literally sold out within 10 minutes, but still got standards in stock and all the other bits too!

Enjoy! And on orders over £80, if you PM me your order number I'll throw in November's white Dwarf for free (the one with all the chaos in).

EDIT: At time of typing 1am, I have ONE limited edition box set left due a mistaken order.

I see the Radagast model is only in the limited edition version, he's the only miniature i'd really want as I am a massive fan of Sylvester McCoy (was the best damn doctor who!) so I will go to ebay for that :D

all looks okay though, to me. Bit shocking at the Trolls price though...don't normally complain about the prices of the Plastic Kits, but that one jumps out at me! the prices of the other plastic kits are all pretty good (as is par for LOTR infantry and cavalry kits).

I really want to hear the reason why the White Council figures are 75 USD for four relatively small models.

Otherwise I think all of the miniatures look fantastic. If I was a fan of the game system I'd be super-excited but, fortunately for my pocket-book, I dislike the game system.

They're $125 in Australia! We're on parity with you guys at the moment.
They're just taking the piss with prices - that's literally a few dollars short of double the exchange rate. GW are dreaming if they think this is going to be anywhere as big an impact as LotR was.

And they still can't get Galadrial to look right. I'll be sticking to the Lego sets.

Will be investing next month, on account I remain a bit Skint.

As for the White Council, it may be to do with royalties or some such. Certainly they need the actor's approval before releasing a sculpt of them.

I highly doubt it. It'd be like action figures and so on where the actor's contract includes allowing the use of their likeness for merchandising and promotional things. GW would get to use designs and likenesses as part of the licensing.

While I agree that Galadrial doesn't look quite right, this model is far above the previous incarnations. That is a particularly awesome looking Gandalf in my opinion as well.

I'm also confused because the White Council had additional members such as Cirdan the Shipwright (who previously bore Narya before Gandalf), Glorfindel, and Radaghast.

I'll probably get an Escape from Goblin Town set and some Goblin Town terain bits but beyond that I don't have much interest in the Hobbit game. Odd really given how much I love the book and LOTR. I'd get the White Council if Galadriel didn't look terrible, though I suppose I should wait to see her unpainted.

Gott, Oz Hammer will probably have them for UK RRP plus shipping if you really want anything and don't want to pay Aus RRP.

I'm liking the hunter orcs for some death world chaos cultist action. Warg riders for rough rider imperial guard allies maybe?

@ EG - I could, true, but I'm not even going to give GW any sales over this. Might change if they do a later Galadriel that's really nice, but not worth it even now by the looks of things. Kingdom Death will be getting my money instead.

Agree with E.G Galadriel looks silly, and in my opinion so does Saruman with his silly strokey-beard hand. Strange box set, but Escape from Goblin Town is amazing, really excited to receive mine, paint it up and play the scenarios! Last time I was this excited was Island of Blood releases for Warhammer, yay Hobbitses!

The Mines of Moria box-set's mini-rulebook included the points cost and rules for every model in the LotR films - does anyone know if this one's mini-rulebook includes the rules for all the models from the Hobbit film, or if you have to buy the main rulebook for that?

greendragon

I think its safe to say that it does, might include a few more from Middle Earth as well. 90% sure but will confirm for you when my copy arrives if you like :)

Individual forces are in the additional books, barring new stuff from the films.

Me, I'm looking forward to the Hammer stunties. More Dwarfs are good Dwarfs!!

I think it's funny that everyone else hates the White Council Galadriel. I think compared to the other two, it is a significant improvement.
That said, I'll likely get my Escape from Goblin Town box and that's it. The three trolls are cool, but not $85 cool. I do like the fact that the Goblin Warriors are actually *cheaper* cost-wise per figure than their Moria counterpart... but I think I have *more* than enough of them (And a few too many cave trolls too!)
Of course, when the next wave hits and we get the Grim Hammers for the Dwarfs, I might have to pick some of those up. Those are rather nice. And my old metal Balin figure is being repurposed for a generic Dwarven Captain...

So, I had a look at Escape from Goblin Town. It comes with all the stats for the models in it, except their points. So to actually add the models to my LotR collection and use them I'd have to buy Escape AND the big rulebook? Not a chance I'm doing that - especially knowing that I'd have to do this for all three films.

Well I'm a massive LotR system fan, and The Hobbit as a game is amazing. So much has improved, and monsters are bent as all god. Sauron munches troops like a boss!

Myself? Well I'll either do a Hunter Orc army led by Azog and Fimbul, or I shall do a Dwarf army based on the Heavy Armour Hammer guys.

EDIT: Also! FELL WARGS ARE BENT.
Oh, what's that? Your unit can't see me, and therefore can't charge me? No worries, I'll get to you in my movement.
That's right, Wargs can charge units that they can't see.

As per my trader's thread...

bit of breaking news this afternoon then! Games Workshop are holding on to the Standard Editions for now until all their Limited Edition stock is cleared through, if you have ordered Standard Edition from us you will be contacted accordingly but for everyone else who missed out...
http://www.greendragongames.co.uk/games-workshop/the-hobbit/hobbit-escape-limited-town.html
and a free gift with code 'XMASDRAGON'.

Sales not as good as predicted on the new releases? Or confusion over allocation of numbers per store? Discuss. :)

Didn't they do the same thing with the 40k box? I guess it stops people getting confused which box they're buying?

greendragon
12-07-2012, 09:52 AM
They did but it was hardly noticed because the limited eds sold out within a couple days, a week later and we still have limited hobbit sets knocking around, it saddens me that this hobby isn't as furiously popular as 40k.
