Posted this list in another forum and did not get any replies. From this, I'm assuming this is the best army written for any army for any edition of 40K ;).

Realy, please tell me what you think about this, I could use some help.

comes out to 1781. now my options could be to:

go with LS and trick them out with HF/MM

OR

two LS Preds.

OR

use a Podnought with HF/MM

Ehh….

Three biggest concerns?

1) Equipment of Grey Hunter squads.

2) Composition of Wolf Guard units.

3) Equipment for the Wolf Priest

Grey Hunters
1) LOVE the Wolf Standard.

2) Gotta ask, though, why you’re buying power fists for the Grey Hunters when you could just as easily give it to the attached Wolf Guard terminators.

Wolf Guard
Seeing as how you’ve already got 7 Wolf Guard and 4 troop choices you can attach Wolf Guard to, it shouldn’t take too much juggling to set it up so you’ve a full 10 Wolf Guard, giving you access to 2 heavy weapons for the Terminator-equipped squads.

Cyclones, in particular, would be really helpful in a pod-based list, since the effective 54” range compensates for bad scatters and situations where you really do NOT want to drop in close to the opposition!

You’d also have some flexibility when it comes to tailoring your squad compositions to deal with the opposition.

Wolf Priest
1) Seeing as how he’s only got a bunch of S4 attacks, taking Saga of the Hunter seems quite pointless, especially combined with the facts that:
a) He’s got Oath of War AND;
b) He’s leading a great big pack of Bloodclaws!

2) To a lesser extent, Oath of War also sort of cancels out the effectiveness of the Wolftooth Necklace.

Something like this, perhaps?

HQ
Wolf Lord, Terminator Armour, twin Wolf Claws, Wolftooth Necklace, Saga of the Bear

Wolf Priest
(No upgrades – he’s just there to boost the effectiveness of the REST of the squad and maybe contribute an extra S4 power weapon attack or three…)

Troops[
Pack 1 – 8 Grey Hunters, melta gun, power weapon, Wolf Standard, drop pod

Pack 2 – 8 Grey Hunters, melta gun, power weapon, Wolf Standard, drop pod

Pack 3 – 8 Grey Hunters, melta gun, power weapon, Wolf Standard, drop pod
(Power fists for Grey Hunters just ain’t worth it, especially if you’re attaching Wolf Guard Terminators to the squad!)

13 Blood Claws, flamer, power fist
(Between getting a second special weapon and attaching a Wolf Guard to the squad, I’d take the Wolf Guard!)

Heavy Support
Land Raider Crusader, extra armour, multi-melta

Elites
10 Wolf Guard

1. Terminator, chain fist, Storm Shield
2. Terminator, chain fist, Storm Shield
3. Wolf Guard, combi-melta, pistol
4. Wolf Guard, combi-plasma, pistol
5. Wolf Guard, combi-melta, ccw
6. Wolf Guard, combi-plasma, ccw
Drop Pod
(These 6 guys are the Wolf Lord’s retinue –
a) Including the Lord, you get 3 hard-to-kill melee specialists in Terminator Armour
b) You also get 4 ablative wounds to soak up shots, contribute extra attacks AND deliver a very flexible punch the first time you fall out of the sky.

7. Wolf Guard Terminator, cyclone launcher, chain fist
8. Wolf Guard Terminator, cyclone launcher, chain fist
9. Wolf Guard Terminator, power-fist, combi-melta
10. Wolf Guard Terminator, Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield
(These are the guys you attach to the 3 Grey Hunter squads and the Blood Claws - the two guys with the cyclones come in with your first wave, of course. Wolf Lord and his bodyguard come in close, Grey Hunters come in a little further back.

As an alternative, you could attach the 2 chainfist/shield Terminators to your first-wave Grey Hunters and have the Wolf Lord deploy further back (or just walk on) with the Terminators with the Cyclones.

Third option, of course, would be to pull Terminators 7, 8, 9 (or all of the above) and have them ALL hang with the Wolf Lord – they’d start on the table and form a solid firebase whilst their pod comes down empty. In the meantime, the power-armoured Wolf Guard can either join the Grey Hunters OR stick with the Wolf Lord…

All depends on who you’re facing, really.)

Comes to 1890 points.

Depending on your final point value, bring along a couple of speeders to distract/harass/shoot and/or give more upgrades to the various Grey Hunter squads.

Not a fan of Podding everything really, too risky. Plus, you only have 1 vehicle starting on the board, so it's fairly easy to bring down quickly since nothing else will draw fire. Swapping out for some Rhinos, Preds and Speeders would give you a more flexible and balanced list so you don't have to be at the mercy of your opponent if you end up going first and he holds everything in reserve.

that's a solid point. maybe down the road i'll use rhinos instead of pods. then again, i could leave the Lord + retinue in a pod, get a Podnought and use rhinos. reason i wante to use pods is that i have several i'm not using ATM.

I would think about buying your lord the belt of russ. He needs the invulnerable save and the 5+ the TDA has ain't alot. He becomes that much more of a beast with one.

Not a fan of the all pod list but I have seen a few that work really well. Go with what you like.
