Does anyone else find that at larger points, whoever plays the most carriers tends to really gain an advantage?

I know the rules have been changed so that you can only have one fighter/bomber on the table per launch bay, but I still find that a chaos fleet with a few Styx heavy cruisers throws my imperials a pretty good beating most of the time.

Imperial Navy has Nova Cannons for this.

Its BFG
the game tends to be carriers like the Enterprise against sailing ships.

I'm actually looking to pick up a chaos fleet for BFG and I really like the looks of the Styx a lot. But, the Chaos fleet composition rules require me to bring two regular cruisers for every heavy cruiser, and I don't find any of the regular cruisers all that appealing.

When you see them played, what cruisers do people generally bring with them? Which cruisers would you bring with them?

chaos devastations are among the best carriers in the game

as far as crusiers go for chaos, the plain ole slaughter is great for it speed and wpns load out. Yes the range is short but a pair of these will wreck a capital ships day. Plus their cheap. To combat the carriers, a few fleet defense escorts tends to help with this. I dont recomend allowing other ships to but the area defense turret as it unbalances the game fast. Makes carriers worthless. Or so we found out in a few campaigns.
