Finally after months we’re ready to debut our latest product line and it's a real doozy. We set out to create a simpler, gentler LED kit. A kit that someone with no skill in electronics could easily use, and I do believe we have succeeded. Composed of four prewired LEDs (that's right, no resistors for you to worry about), a compact 6 volt power source with its own On/Off switch (uses two CR2032 coin sized batteries), and two genius twist together connectors I give you...

THE ILLUMINARE LED KITS!

I've added the links to each set (forgot to do that last night :) ).

The cost for the Illuminare LED Kit is $8USD and the Illuminare LED Headlight Kit is $12USD plus shipping.

Red can definitely be added. We just did the initial launch with two colors to gauge demand with the plan to include more colors later. Beside red what other colors would you like to see?

Well red, green amd a plain white would be quite good. Maybe a purple too :-P

Ill have to look at an order when i finish moving....got ideas for a land raider now....

I'm from the Uk and interested in adding this sort of thing, wondering if you could tell me what makes your product better than the Powered Play Gaming kit I've seen advertised on Secret Weapon Miniatures and The Independant Charcters podcast?

Powered Play Gaming makes a quality product that is easy to use and is expandable with their PCB board, but it is also bulky and expensive. My product offers a cheaper alternative for those who just want a bare bones LED system that's simple to work with and install.

It comes down to is a Mercedes or a Chevy the better option for you? :)

I started assembling a Baneblade chassis for a project I’m working on (more on that later) and decided to see how easy it would be install one of my Illuninare LEDs Kits. As it turns out, it is pretty easy!

Step 1: Carefully drill out the headlights using a 1/8 inch or 3mm drill bit.

http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/ab340/machinator248/Illuminare%20LED%20Kits/BanebladeStep1_zps6da6acaf.jpg (http://s877.photobucket.com/user/machinator248/media/Illuminare%20LED%20Kits/BanebladeStep1_zps6da6acaf.jpg.html)

Step 2: Trim off the bottom edge on the backside. This is to allow the ledge of the LED to fit flush.

http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/ab340/machinator248/Illuminare%20LED%20Kits/BanebladeStep2_zpsb348fec6.jpg (http://s877.photobucket.com/user/machinator248/media/Illuminare%20LED%20Kits/BanebladeStep2_zpsb348fec6.jpg.html)

Step 3: Using the headlight has a guide, mark where in the headlight mount you need to drill the holes for the wires. Once marked make a hole about 0.20 inches or 5mm in diameter.

http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/ab340/machinator248/Illuminare%20LED%20Kits/BanebladeStep3_zps78024ac7.jpg (http://s877.photobucket.com/user/machinator248/media/Illuminare%20LED%20Kits/BanebladeStep3_zps78024ac7.jpg.html)

Step 4: Glue the LEDs through the backside of the headlight assembly and run the wires through the holes in the mount. You’ll have to bend the wires a bit to make them fit.

http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/ab340/machinator248/Illuminare%20LED%20Kits/BanebladeStep4_zps762660f3.jpg (http://s877.photobucket.com/user/machinator248/media/Illuminare%20LED%20Kits/BanebladeStep4_zps762660f3.jpg.html)

Machinator
10-05-2013, 01:59 PM
Step 5: Drill a hole about 0.25 inches or 6mm wide on the inner side of the Baneblade track and run the wires through.

http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/ab340/machinator248/Illuminare%20LED%20Kits/BanebladeStep5_zpsc92d291f.jpg (http://s877.photobucket.com/user/machinator248/media/Illuminare%20LED%20Kits/BanebladeStep5_zpsc92d291f.jpg.html)

Step 6: Once the chassis is assembled connect the red and black wires together to the power supply.

http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/ab340/machinator248/Illuminare%20LED%20Kits/BanebladeStep6_zps1e205020.jpg (http://s877.photobucket.com/user/machinator248/media/Illuminare%20LED%20Kits/BanebladeStep6_zps1e205020.jpg.html)

Yes you can, the only thing it may affect is battery life (i will need to do some tests). White LEDs are certainly an option I can add.

I plan to add red and green soon.

Bugger they would looks sweet but I have already built and painted 2 of my Baneblades.

I am looking at getting a Fire Prisms squadron for my Eldar Army next Year. I am thinking of 5 Leds for the Fire Prism.

2 x red for the engines

2 x Green for the cockpit

1 x Yellow or White for the weapon

good thing with the Elder Tanks is that I can leave the back hatch open for access to the battery and possible switch.

Can you do the leds in Singles so I can wire them together as and when I build my squadron or in a kit form already pre wired.

Machinator

Yes, I can. I was already planning on selling the LEDs in packs of two but I can also include the battery pack and connectors seperately so that people can customize their own kits.

So I've been working on a proof of concept using tinted clear resin pieces backlit with LEDs. I have to say these turned out better then I thought they would. What do you think?

Very nice!

Also, a question; would there be any way to get one of the regular 4-LED kits using UV LEDs?

These would look great on a Knight. It would be interesting to run the cable through the arms to the Weapons. There's a really nice Knight in White Dwarf (with an awesome flame job on the Carapace) that looks like it has LED eyes.

I normally don't carry the UV LEDs but let me check my source.

There are actually pics on my Facebook page of someone that has done that:

Hopefully in the next couple of months. I just got off the designs to my CAD guy so once they are 3D printed it shouldn't be too long.

Just be patient :)

One bit of feedback I'd like to give on these wonderful LEDs: I am currently in the process of what will probably be 2014's most popular conversion project, lighting a Knight Titan. From what I can tell, the little black bundle just behind the LED bulb itself on the Illuminares is the resistor? There is very little room in the Knight's skull for the resistor package. I'm not sure what the ideal solution would be (for mine, I just kept drilling till I had a hole big enough to fit it through), but it might be something to look into.

Machinator

Thanks for the feedback DWest, that is indeed the resistor pack. I'll look into it, I still need to get a knight for myself :)

Well it's been a long time but they're up!

Now available in five colors in both a single and dual headlight configuration I give you the next generation of Illuminare LED Headlight Kits!

The resin pieces are also paintable so the grill can be blacked out to add extra realism.
