View Full Version : Reaper Bones II: The Sequel!

The original Reaper Bones Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1513061270/reaper-miniatures-bones-an-evolution-of-gaming-min) is by some considerable margin the most successful miniatures related Kickstarter of all time (thus far) raising just over $3.4 million! And now they are doing it all over again. The countdown to the launch of Bones II has started on Reaper's site and the Kickstarter will go live in just over 2 days and 20 hours from now.

If you want an idea of what this will be like, have a read through the BoLS thread on the previous Bones Kickstarter which can be found here. (http://www.lounge.belloflostsouls.net/showthread.php?23517-Reaper-Miniatures-Kickstarter-Bones)

Looking forward to this one. I haven't had time to touch my miniatures from the first reaper bones yet (short of bending them back into place). I will get these painted (before my daughter is eligible to vote 18 years from now).

I'm torn, last time i cancelled at the last minute, it was a lot of miniatures for the money but looking at them now, they don't really seem like they're going to be fun to paint, decent enough for the odd RPG i suppose.

They are really good quality casts actually, if that's what you have doubts about. some of the older sculpts are showing their age but a lot of them look brilliant. In terms of quality I have no qualms about pledging for Bones II, the Bonering.

not so much the quality as the level of detail on the model not matching metal or resin, edges seem to round off a bit, more on the smaller models, the big things looked better but then there seemed to be an issue with consistency and shrinkage of some parts, I dunno, I just have seen a lot of people being a little disapointed is all!

The photos give that impression certainly, but in my experience the level of detail in the newer sculpts and most of the others are very good.:) not at GW levels in general certainly but with a decent paintjob they look great on a table alongside GW stuff.

I guess the fact that they're a pretty clean white in most photos I've seen doesn't help then, hard to make out details like that.

The material actually absorbs light slightly or something, making the edges translucent and appear fuzzy in photos:

Intrepid Kickstarters, If we can raise $500,000, we have an incredible new creature to offer! Feared by adventurers everywhere, the Gelatinous Cube has spent decades being represented by dice cubes or worse! This absolutely gorgeous model has a translucent and hollow cube that can be detached from the base and placed over a character or villain! Once inside, this mindless ooze will digest your heroes in seconds, and you can return the cube to the decorative base which delightfully shows off the skeleton of its’ latest victim! Also includes two translucent slime models! NOTE: Actual digestion does not occur.

Alright, Kickstarters! You’ve gotten us pretty far, and it’s time throw out a completely NEW idea! This is our new Expansion Set - It's kind of like a Core Set, but it's got a different selection, and a greater emphasis on larger monsters. Instead of getting them all at $10 each, or per pair, we're giving you the whole bundle for $50 - and if there's not enough cool things in there right now, there will be other stretch goals that add more things to it, so the deal just gets better!

Greetings!

First we’d like to thank you for your support. The speed at which this Bones 2 Kickstarter funded has both humbled us and set into motion a general panic to catch up.

Concerning International Shipping- VERY SOON™ we’ll have our Pledge Calculator online. It will allow you to choose your options and build your pledge. It will also include a shipping rate calculator.

This shipping calculator will use the rates posted on the US Postal Service website to determine the amount you’ll need to include in your pledge to cover your shipping.

Until our Pledge Calculator goes live we’ve included some information below that will help you get a rough estimate on what your shipping charges could be.

http://ircalc.usps.com

Estimated Weights:
Core Set – 4lbs (1.8kg)
Regular Figure .25oz (.01kg)
Small Dragon – 1.25oz (.04kg)
Large Figure - .35oz (.01kg)
Small Giant – 1oz (.03kg)
Very Large Dragon - 2lbs 8oz (1.2kg)
Medium Dragon - 3.5oz (.1kg)
Figure Case – 2lbs (.9kg)
Paint Set of 12 Bottles –12oz (.35kg)

Shipping Example 1: (4lbs)
Using the weights above, a Core Set alone, $100.00 declared value shipped First Class International to these countries would cost:
Poland $38.95

Australia $38.95

UK $38.95

Germany $38.95

Canada $27.35

Shipping Example 2: (6lbs 10oz)
Using the weights above, one each of everything above excluding a figure case or paints, $150.00 declared value shipped Priority International to these countries would cost:
Poland $66.90

Australia $65.25
UK $ 63.30
Germany $ 52.30

Canada $ 42.35

Shipping Example 3: (9lbs 2oz)
Using the weights above, one each of everything above, $198.00 declared value shipped Priority International to these countries would cost:
Poland $79.05

Australia $78.30
UK $72.15
Germany $60.55

Canada $49.40

The Pledge Calculator is expected to be up in a few days. We’re doing everything in our power to get it done as fast as possible, but we have just the one developer and he’s working as fast as he can. Until we get our actual Pledge Calculator online, please use the estimates above as a rough guide to determine your shipping costs.

THIS IS IMPORTANT: Please do not cancel your pledge until after you’ve used our actual Pledge Calculator to determine your actual shipping costs. We are NOT ABLE to put you back into a particular pledge level. If you drop early and someone else takes your spot, we won’t be able to help you. Thank you so much and we hope this helps. We appreciate your patience.
Not too terrible given how much you save on the miniautres themselves.

Gotta admit that for $50 that is a pretty nice expansion pack. Not so great for wargamers maybe (though some of them would make great statues for scenery), but for rpg players especially those playing D&D or Pathfinder there's loads of good figures in there.

Curious to see what the next expansion pack will be now. Also I'd love them to add in some of the generic superhero figures from their Chronoscope line.

with shipping and then customs, it looks like this is a no go for me to the UK, even though I think legally, you could get away with not paying the customs charge (and the ridiculous £8 Post office fee!) for things from a KS,

I gotta say, Reapers attitude in all of this rest of the world shipping thing has been pretty poor, refusing to even acknowledge the idea of setting up an EU distributior, when loads of much smaller companies have arranged it on bigger kickstarters. Saying that RoTW shipping nearly crippled them on the last KS is also an obvious lie, as the data they put up themselves shows, they made a profit on the KS, they got all the new molds paid for, got a load of great PR, paid their staff and bills for a year and made a profit, on money they generated in a month. Subsidising shipping to the rest of the world was one of the reasons they got such a huge amout of backers in the first place, over 5000 of the backers were outside the US, even on vampire sets alone what would have been well over half a million dollars after fees. This time, they've decided they don't care.

Yeah I like Trollslayer Sophie too! She and the gribbly slug thing have now been unlocked and part #3 of Expansion #3 has been unveiled:

58 hours to go, which means just 10 hours until the 48 hour reminder e-mails go out, which is when things normally go a bit nuts.

Yup, though the ridiculous thing is despite already being the second most successful miniatures kickstarter ever (after Bones the First) if it doesn't beat the first ones total people are likely to judge it as a failure.

Brakkart
10-24-2013, 07:59 AM
Yeah which is ridiculous. Reaper really are in a league of their own when it comes to miniature-based kickstarters. I don't think this one will break the total raised by the first one, but it is structured very differently and I'm not entirely sure that was a good idea. I'm not actually backing this one as can't afford too, but even if I could the way it is set up would make me hesitant to pledge as a lot of the figures I would want are mixed in with tonnes of them that I don't, which means that for me it would likely work out cheaper to wait and get the ones I want at retail.

Brakkart

Well the 48 hour mark has been reached and the kickstarter has begun to surge towards the end. Couple more stretch goals revealed, one has been hit already as the total is up to $2,337,748 as I type:

2 hours to go, $2,950,000 passed and its clocking at stupid speed. Really keen to see what they have got for a finale as its gonna pass the $3 million mark in about half an hour or so at this rate.

$3 million passed and Reaper have put up a Thank You option parcel!

78 mins to go... no sign of a big finale mini thus far...

Brakkart
10-26-2013, 04:16 PM
Well not a huge finale, but at least there is another mini related stretch goal to finish things off:

And that was the end of that. Bones 2 finishes with a grand total of: $3,169,610. And Reaper chuck everyone another thank you by unlocking the Giant Spider even though the total for it wasn't reached.

As much as I really wanted to invest in this... there just wasn't enough to draw me in this time. Although it's good to see they will be releasing more Pathfinder figures.

I have to admit though... I was really tempted with the Dragons Don't Share diorama as well as the Minotaur Demonlord.

Well I ended up getting more than I intended but only around half the expenditure of last time. Basic 100 set and afew add ons including the big dragon kit and the Highland Encounter.

I did 250 last time, and 350 this time. the expansions arnt as good a value as the core was, but still enough of one to enjoy if I can unload the minis I dont want

I wasn't planning on going in on this one at all, but I managed to jump in on a $1 pledge level with 2 minutes to go. There wasn't enough in the core minis to draw me (obviously they're amazing value, but what's the point in spending another $60 for another 100 models that I'm not crazy about?) but I decided to buy a few individual packs from the unlocks and the Dragons diorama. If I can add more to my pledge later I might get Expansion 1 and maybe 2, but will end up trying to flog a third of those if I do. All in all a little disappointed with this one, but to be honest with Reaper I, Relic Knights, Dead Zone and Wrath of Kings... I think I may have enough minis to keep me going.

For the moment.

You could try pinging them an e-mail saying you tried to get in on the KS but due to the traffic you weren't able to, I think that when the site kept crashing last time they actually let people whose pledges weren't accepted in the last half hour in on it through paypal.

Failing that, do you know anyone on here that you trust enough to add you in on their pledge? TDA missed the first Reaper KS and really wanted Cthulhu so as it was only another $10 I didn't mind adding him on to mine, maybe you can find someone to buddy up?

I was on the fence with jumping on this KS because of the mix of different things I really didn't want like Brakkart said. I'll just wait it out and get my bones when they release...although I was really tempted just because of the gelatinous cube and slimes.... anyone get them? :D

TREADROMANCY At it's finest!!!!

So, Wave 1 shipped and I got my minis today. Well worth the 18 month wait (6 months over due, but I am not complaining at all).
