When I Finally Realized What I Was Seeing, This Was The Coolest Thing Ever. Look Closer.

Meet Michael Paul Smith.

For over 25 years, he has been creating an imaginary world called “Elgin Park,” filled with scaled models of old cars. They’re 1/24th the size to be exact. He chooses appropriate surroundings for these models, and then uses his camera to capture the most realistic shot possible. The kind of shot that you have no idea is within a tiny world.

Here’s the best part: he does it all with a $200 point and shoot camera. Dive into his world below.

This is proof that creativity always reigns above budget. His passion for Elgin Park is inspirational.

For all you BoLS readers - wow, I'm inspired to go try to make some great shots like these.

It was when I was looking at the last photo, the one with the shopping trolleys, that it finally hit me.

There are no people in Elgin Park.

And all of a sudden it is extremely creepy.

Yeah -it's like some funky "after the A-bomb" kind of vibe. Totally creepy.

But damn, his trick photography and light he gets with outdoor shooting is stunning.

I'm totally debating a BoLS Photo Challenge based on this.....

Sounds good to me :)

Those photos are amazing, as are his modeling skills. It's like "the land of the giants" tv series from the 60s but better.
I have been reading more and more articles on scale modeling and the techniques they use. Trying to see how to transfer those skills into our hobby to add a sense of realism to our toys. Products like AK interactive washes and weathering powders.
I thought some of us took our hobby seriously, but wow no way not in comparison to those guys. An inspiration really.

We just need some marauding deathclaws to add a really creepy vibe...
