I think I have around 2000 points of Orks and 1800 points of Space Marines sitting in a giant rubbermaid tub waiting to be assembled. And then the Flames of War and the War of the Rings stuff...

I'm pretty sure I could assemble and paint stuff every day through the end of the year without buying another mini.

We need to start instituting fully-painted Apocalypse.

We need to start instituting fully-painted Apocalypse.

My group up here in Canada insists on fully painted Apocalypse. It tends to keep the games resonable. We also use the BoLS house rules ( nod to the crew;) ) as its very easy for Apocalypse to become bloated and un-fun if you let people use every miniature they have.
I've found this really helps me finish projects because if i wann throw down my new toy I better get it finished. At first people thought it was un-fair, but after a few games people really appreciated seeing massive fully painted armies on the table and we started seeing people actually finish painting in record time.

As for your collection bigred; it's quite impressive. :D I keep all my stuff in foam trays. I can't seem to convince the wife that getting some glass cabnets or even shelves is a good investment...if only she know how much I spend on minis in a month...

And the sad part Dosadi is I'm out of bookshelf space...

Where will I put my LotR Elves Army, the Flames of War German Army, and my 40k/Fantasy expansion units?

I hear Ikea has fully enclosed glass display cabinets for about $50.

Oh, I just remembered my newest Apocalypse trick:

When moderating a game, give each team a set time per turn (30-45 minutes or so). Then tell each team if they finish under time they can recycle any dead unit (non-superheavy or non-gargantuan creature) back to life at the start of their next turn; reserving on from their board edge.

At the 1 minute mark make the team captain decide to end the turn and take the unit, to give it up and get in those last 60 seconds. They will take the unit every time and your game will stay on schedule.

And both teams feel good about it as they play fast to get the rewards.

I'll be using the system at BoLScon. it works great!

The only problem is that we could abuse it by making a futile assault that would tie up a shooty unit and call time without resolving the assault. Then that shooty unit couldn't shoot because it is tied up even though if we resolved the assault it would have wiped our unit out and been able to shoot. Just sayin'.

On the IKEA shelving, you need to go for more density: get a few spare shelf packs from IKEA so you can pack more in. I've gone vertical myself. Ah, the advantage of magnetized display boards.

That's sheer genius.

The only real "complaint" (not quite the right word, but I can't think of a word that means, "The only part of something that I find less than pleasant," off the top of my head) I have with Apoc games is they tend to have turns that just go ON and ON...you spend a lot of time waiting for the next thing to do. Sounds like your plan should eliminate a lot of that, and that's something I can behind and support 100%!

I think I like the Death Guard the most though. ;) I've been tempted to make a pre-Heresy army as well, damn those HH books.

I keep most of mine in boxes in my room and it does sadden me that I can't display them. The last game I had we used a double bed to play on because my space marine army takes the size of a single mattress to deploy. I should slap a pic up at some point.....thinks:rolleyes:

I have this one in white http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10119032

The only reason I didn't get the cheaper one: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10011055

is because it has a lock and key since I have a 2.5 year old and he would love to get a hold of my "guys" as he calls them:)

The 60$ one has a built light instead.

The sad thing is I'm gonna have to grab 2 more soon at the rate of my expanding collection. *sigh* hahaha

I have about 8.5k in tau when I Apoc it all up. Thats 8 RailHead's, 1 SkyRay, 6 Devilfish, 72 FireWarrior's, 20 Crisis suits, 6 Broadsides, 18 Stealthsuits, 8 Pirahna, and 2 Remora. Plus, more of other units. Now, my nids are growing very rapidly and they are up to about 3k since I started about a year ago. Space marines are up next, after my hive fleet has hit a good Apoc size.

Having seen the rate of work you guys can put out, its not that suprising. Display cases are a must unless you are going to keep them covered with a sheet or something to prevent dust getting in? Then that kind of defeats the point right? hehe.

Just out of interest, I would think there are some larger models missing from those pictures?

I also loved your pre-Heresy Death Guard, it is what origionally brought me to the BoLS blog site.

I feel your pain BigRed, I have way too much stuff as well. Though I certainly can't say that I have that many fully painted armies! A large portion of my stuff is leftover from my Mage Knight days and yes, I know I should be ashamed playing with silly, pre-painted minis ;)
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f105/hephesto555666/c1-2.jpg

And then there's tons of unfinished stuff of course....really should move to a bigger apartment soon

Which IKEA shelving unit is that? Was looking in their online catalog and I couldn't find it. Closest I saw was http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S99837897 for which you could buy extra glass shelving kits.

It's only too many when you run out of square footage to store them. :p

I don't have nearly as many as you bigred or Hephesto, but I'll show off my case for the fun of it.

This is the Detolf case by Ikea (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10011055). It's WAY out of date it's now a lot more full than what's shown here.
