----------

With so many target locks and missile pods, the list is designed around the concept that multiple light armour targets will be regularly suffering results on the vehicle damage table. Achieving glances/pens is more important than wrecked/exploded results. The extensive blacksun filter utilization is designed to make a third of the standard deployment types much easier. The Pathfinders are not considered a priority unit. They're there only to strip early smoke/cover off of priority targets. The Piranha is assigned a threaten/skirmish or late game contest role, often brought in turn 2 by the positional relay, with both Kroot waiting in reserve to come in turn 3 or 4.

If you move the flamers to bodyguards, you get better ability to wound stripe the crisis units.

I think Kroot are giving points away, but others seem to find people that allow them to be effective.

That list is radically different than anything I have played against. It looks very competitive. I agree on the flamer reccomendation. That being said, if there is comp scoring in the tournament, I would expect to take a hit on comp due to the severe shortage of Fire Warriors. I think if you found a way to bump that squad to 10 by losing some battlesuit wargear, it may help your comp score. Either that or run it as a Farsight enclave and drop the kroot for Fire Warriors. That way your Battlesuits become troops too I think. Just some suggestions. But again, looks like a very competitive list.

I really want to see how this list fares. It sounds different but could do quite well. I worry about the lone piranha but coming in later using the pos relay... That could work out pretty well.

Thanks for the feedback...

I will have to give it some thought then. In truth, I'd already debated that heavily in creating the list. I'm still not sure how I'll adjust the points but in retrospect, t really does sound worthwhile in the long run.

Aye, that's a tough call I'll have to playtest on my own, as I've just started using them, to be honest. If they don't prove too worthwhile, I suppose a FW/DF combo is what I'll run, which I'd actually rather avoid... but results will dictate whether the Kroot stay or not.

Although presently being debated, comp scores are still not being used here to my knowledge. I reckon you're absolutely right though; I also don't doubt that I'd take a comp hit.

Although that would be *wonderful*, Farsight can take 1-7 XV8s as bodyguards and normal suit units are 1+ but they don't count as troops. I can see this changing in a future codex, however.

I try to avoid resurrecting old threads but I one way or another, I'll try to remember to do post-action reports on how things end up working out, for sure.

Kroot are vital to a competitive Tau army. Cheap, disposable infiltrators to block assaults and screw with deep strikers quite handily. Plus they're cheap and scoring.

I'm not a fan of flamers on suits though, they're just too short ranged. Even with jumping away, you're gonna get charged and you will be stomped over. There's a reason the Pod/Plaz is so prevalent, it's the only good way to run suits :P

I agree. The main reason I added two flamers is so I could have a little more redundancy in my list to easily cause damage to light infantry shooty units in cover. Eldar pathfinders and Dark Eldar warrior lance squads are two examples that I expect to be required to deal with.

Additionally, at least in theory, if an XV8 squad was escorting any of my vehicles, I thought it would also provide additional deterrant to lightly armoured assaulters attacking - and correspondingly grouping up around - my vehicles as well.

It's just something else that I'm going to have to see how it plays out during games.
