Billed as the 40k plants vs zombies, Storm of Vengence details have been announced.

I predict it will sell by the bucketload if it gets the right exposure.

Yup:

British developer Eutechnyx today announced that it’s currently working on Storm of Vengeance, a MOBA set in Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 universe. Slated for a 2014 release on PC and mobile devices, Eutechnyx describes Storm of Vengeance as a “lane strategy game” set in the dark, gothic, but not-at-all emo universe of Warhammer 40,000.

Storm of Vengeance will be based on canonical events in the 40K universe, unlike Relic’s excellent real-time strategy series, Warhammer: 40,000: Dawn of War, which told an original story about an elite group of Space Marines called the Blood Ravens. Vengeance tells the story of the conflict on planet Piscina IV and features two notable characters: Grand Master Belial and Ork Warlord Ghazghkull Thraka. Players will either defend the planet as the Dark Angel Space Marines or joyfully annihilate it with the Ork Waaagh! If you want to find out more about the original Storm of Vengeance and the Piscina campaign—and you do because 40K fiction is really awesome—check out this PDF (http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1390008_The_complete_Storm_of_Vengeance_campaign_ pack.pdf).

Probably why they weren't overly worried by the drop off in profits - they knew they had this cash cow up their sleeve. :D

It's on Steam now, pre-order gets you into beta.

It's NOT a MOBA at alll.

Uh...WTF is "lane strategy?" I'm familiar with "lame strategy," as that's the only kind I'm capable of. But "lane strategy?"

Now I can finally play as Marneus Calgar as he holds the gate for a night and a day!

Shame that Belial was just Master of the Third Company at the time and not a Grand Master until after the Storm of Vengeance campaign.

Oh god, those graphics...I'd rather play Slitherine's forthcoming 2d early 90's style strategy game this just looks hideous. It looks like a Warhammer 40k Plants Vs Zombies.

Which... is... exactly what the article linked in the original post of this thread. Well done?

Why? Why do they do this to me? My bank account is just too shallow!

I'm down for 40k Plants vs Zombies. I don't even care that it doesn't look amazing, it's a cell phone title, big shock there. I just wish we weren't getting it due to GW having their heads up their ***** about why THQ died and their video game licensing revenue went down the drain. If the whole Royalties section of the FY2012 financials was their honest opinion on the matter(that THQ died, and their licensing dropped, because AAA games are going the way of the dinosaur, so it's all mobile all the time), they very clearly have no clue what they're doing when it comes to their game licensing; to them one developer is just like any other, and Relic landing Dawn of War seems like more and more of a fluke.

Of course if they were to announce tomorrow(or maybe at E3 this year) that Sega acquired the 40k license and Relic has continued to work on DoW3, well, maybe I'd be able to give them the benefit of the doubt again.

The Facebook link went directly to Wolfshade's post, not the initial one, and more importantly, a Warhammer 40k game that looks like Plants Vs Zombies is worth repeating, because its such a sad waste of developer time and effort. They could've done something cool, but they had to go with a bright, happy Warhammer 40k. It looks like Lego: Warhammer 40k. There, better?

Maybe I'm looking at the wrong issues here, but can the Dark Angels even field a Storm Talon? As far as my codex shows there's only two fliers allowed and that's the Dark Talon or Nephilim.

A Kill Team game in the style of Fallout Tactics or Xcom, I'd die of joy.

Or a top-down, turn-based Fallout 1/2 style Inquisitor game, god I would kill for either. Sadly well developed RPGs require a great deal of development, writing, etc, whereas more arcade style titles are relatively easy, as you just develop mechanics and then scale difficulty upward

Something i find interesting is that the PDF claims that Nazdreg's rules can be found in Codex Orkz, however in the current book he is absent...
Also, the PDF mentions older units like Skarboyz among the Historical Forces for each scenario, perhaps a foretelling of additions to the new Ork codex?

If you want an in depth look at the cash grap that is this title with some rather amusing 40k lingo sprinkled in I suggest watching TB's Video on this

Have fun, I had to laugh quite a bit

No, the Piscina IV campaign is old, 3rd ed campaign, if you look at the format of that book and all the 3rd ed books you will see how similiar they are.

I was thinking about this game and think it is a nice step. So far 40k has focused on the classic pc/video game gamer. This is the first attempt to branch out into the casual gamer, which is an ever growing market and has a very large market which is only just being realised. If you get some conversion from casual gamer to table top wargamer then it is a success in the greater scheme of things

I've been playing this for almost 2 weeks at lunch times... its not what I expected and it's not the prettiest beast even on 'Fantastic' graphics settings.

It was never going to appease the GW fan in me who wants to play epic battles and be drenched in grim dark lore, but this is a fun no brainer distraction at lunctimes. I've had a bunch more fun playing Orks than SM, theirs just more going on. I find for the space marines you just generate marines and march them forward, but the Orks can put inside a Trukk and sent driving or I can generate upgrades and send them out equipped as needed, Usually with shooters.

I don't however understand the Wyrd boy towers and the best way to use them, everyone ends up close and the lightening just hits everything including my own Orks, so I've just thrown them aside and focused on Mek upgrades.

The other interesting levels are the 'skirmishes' where you have a finite number of units and so does the enemy and you must deploy them all to wipe out the opponent, these can by quite thinky. Especially the I did today which was a Wyrd boy tower and one Ork versus 6 Marines.

My review: Not groundbreaking, disappointing from a GW fan perspective but a fun distraction. I'd probably say wait for the steam/app store sale.
