Hi guys! So I've only played a few games of x wing and I am going to my first tourney. I am running:

Istabam w/ advanced sensors and expose
Kyle in moldy crow w/ opportunist, blaster turrent, and recon specialist
Biggs w/ r2-d-2

99 pts

I've used this build to good success against rebels. With the b wing and Kyle doing minimum 4 die damage at range 2 (and usually rerolls thanks to focus and istabam stress power) and keeping Biggs soaking up damage with r2 regenerating shields and 2 focus tokens a round (one from Kyle)

However no one around me plays swarms and I'm afraid it has to few ships against 5 or more ships. Any thoughts if this will be competitive or should I go with 2 x-wing 2 b wing build.

Thanks bols!

What happends if you run into Canor Jax + Interceptor spam?

Don't know! Never played a interceptor swarm. :-) I figure I have 2 turns to squash Jax and maybe at best 2 interceptors before Biggs bites it.

Hmmm i am a noob but i would throw this at you.....

Carnor Jax (33)
TIE Interceptor (26), Push the Limit (3), Shield Upgrade (4)

Saber Squadron Pilot (27) (or if i want to be a really jerk repalce this with a royal guard............then you have double upgraded hull\shield interceptors to worry about....)
TIE Interceptor (21), Push the Limit (3), Hull Upgrade (3)

Avenger Squadron Pilot (20)

Avenger Squadron Pilot (20)

Don't take that. Its not that its bad but 3 ship builds struggle. You need 4. If you really want to take ibtisam then don't take expose. It will get her killed very quickly. Play test this and see if you like it:

Ibtisam
Push the limit

Biggs

Red sqd

At this point I took a hawk with ion but that's not for everyone so try a rookie. I hope that helps.

Reading that back it sounds harsh so I'll try and explain. I used to run 3 ship builds and it makes all three ship really good. The problem come when you hit any imperial squad that has 5-6 ships in it. Most at a tournament will have that. If your really unlucky you get hit by a swarm.

The fourth ship may not sound like a big difference but trust me it really is.
Expose is not as good as it looks at first glance. Swap 1 of you defence for 1 extra attack. No. It works out better to focus and TL on three dice then focus and roll 4 dice. Plus on a b-wing you have just killed it. it will be target no. 1 anyway. Taking its defence ( yes bits naff but better then nothing).

Ibtisam works of stress. PtL stresses you so you get rerolls with out the need for TL.

Biggs should really explain himself. If you want that b-wing alive longer then biggs is your whipping boy. ( I try to fit biggs into every list )

The red and rookie need no explaining. Its an x-wing.

The hawk is not great if I'm honest. Blaster turrets are meh. Ion is better.

I hope that came off as less a%#£ish. That was never my intent. Good luck with whatever you list you take.

PS. My list that I enjoy most is this

Luke + R2 unit + PtL
Biggs + R2 unit
2x rookies

Hey thanks! Like I said 4 ship armies are the most I ever went against so it's hard to see how a 3 ship build hurts against a swarm. I will definitely play around with it more. Although blaster turrent with opportunist has really worked well for me. Kyle kills a tie every round!
