daemons get a 5+ ward save and fecundity gives a regen save but you must choose one or the other is this locus really worth it for its points value or should i stick with one of the other locus?

I'm not sure exactly what that does, but if it is a choice between ward and regen, always go ward. Regen is negated by flaming and given there is a ten point banner that gives flaming attacks, a lot of armies have them somewhere.

Depends heavily on the local game scene. If flaming attacks are prevalent then stick with the ward save. If not, then go regen.

If you go with regen just don't let it become a crutch. I too often see people relying on regen to make the unit extremely durable and then when something (like that 10pt banner that Wildey was talking about) finally does hit the table the unit evaporates because the player didn't anticipate that his opponent. If your opponent doesn't seem wary of a unit with regen, hold it back unless you know the unit he's baiting you with has no way possible of taking flaming attacks.

i could make one unit the anvil then with regen and the rest with the other buffs

I'm not a major fan of it myself, to be perfectly honest. A 5+ ward save isn't as good normally as a 4+ Regeneration save, but Flaming Attacks and (Heroic) Killing Blow ignore Regeneration. I see a lot of those, particularly the latter, in my meta so I would avoid the Locus personally. However, it's not by any means a bad upgrade. Basically, if you don't see Vampire Counts or Tomb Kings often (both spam Killing Blow out the wazoo) then you should be fine. If you see Dwarves, though, you can expect them to have one or two war machines with flaming attacks.

I'd say it's worth it, on balance.

Yes, it can be negated by Flaming Attacks. But although every army has access, they're far from prevalent enough to make Regen pointless.

That's what I said :) lol. Vampire Counts and Tomb Kings ignore Regeneration (on non-monstrous units) the most I find, so if Xaric doesn't see them then the Locus should do fine.

Even then, it's well worth it on your rank and file, who on balance aren't terribly phased about Killing Blow, and you still get your Ward save.

Given the randomness of the special winds of magic rules that demons have you could easily drop your ward down to a 6+. I like the idea of the 4+ and the 5+ as a backup. Depending on the size of that unit having a backup save can be important. The name of the game is making sure you get what you need when you need it. Like when people have two spell casters that have nearly the same spell. Everything in the demon book is expensive for the most part so it'd be nice to have that regen for a few more points. Maybe if you run 2 units have one with the extra poison on 5+ and the other with regen. You might be able to place the one with regen away from the flaming attack units and have the one with the extra poison sit in front of a large monster with lower armor save.
