View Full Version : Transformers: Cyberverse

I was posting these on Transformers forums, but I thought they'd be worth uploading here, too. They're all "cyberverse" scale, only a couple of inches tall - easy on the wallet and transportation.

Here's my Warpath. Made from a movieverse Gutcruncher/Sparkcrusher, I wanted to play up the "Robots in Disguise" angle and not have Warpath turn into a bright red tank - only his concealed robot mode parts being his signature color.

As a minibot tank, I like to think he scanned one of those one-man minitanks that pops up in fiction occasionally.
Roadbuster and Chopshop. As you can probably tell, I'm a fan of fluorescent orange! Roadbuster's head's been trimmed down/resculpted a bit, to remove the hat/mullet design from DotM. A painted/shortened Halo megabloks weapon is used as a Pathblaster.

Next, Roadbuster is joined by fellow Wreckers, Bulkhead and Wheeljack.

Only minor alterations; Bulk's got a few details painted in, trans-blue covered and been given a kitbashed weapon based on the one Magnus gave him. Wheeljack has some color-tweaks in homage to Armada Wheeljack, who first introduced the idea of the character being a loner/warrior. His Autobrand is scarred, but his Wreckers badge is bright and proud - he's loyal to the Wreckers, not the 'bots.

Megatron.

Besides the obvious change of the trans-purple to grey, I've added almost a centimeter of spacer to his thighs, so he towers over foes. Fortunately, it didn't muck up his altmode. I'm a big fan of Megatron's Prime design - it manages to work in plenty of the G1 detail (the "grip" on his legs, for example), but it doesn't feel forced. Still gotta make him a Dark Saber.

A minor mod and a WIP - Ironhide has some additional deco and his arm cannons were lengthened with RotF Ironhide's guns - I like that asymmetrical look! Beside him is the complete, unpainted, cygar-smoking Kup, made from the aforementioned RotF Ironhide.

He's a little bit buff for a Kup, but the mold still feels like a decent fit. He has some sculpted on details to make him a bit Prime-er, and hands/laser musket made from Halo Megabloks bits - they're perfect for Cyberverse customs; a collection of hands, weapons, hinges and balljoints to use.

Finally, Wazzpinator.

I found his Targetmaster bits kinda clunky, and Wasp's too awesome to just be someone else's gun :P With a megabloks bit at its core, he was given a handheld stinger and his black/yellow details.

A bit of a goofy update, but here's a G1-painted Grimlock munching on the Dreads.

That Grimmy (http://www.ebay.com/itm/271547283061?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649) (and another w/ similar colors (http://www.ebay.com/itm/271547292511?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649)) are up on eBay, but it feels a bit out of the purview of the Sales forum on this site.

Those are nifty, what sort of things do you have to keep in mind painting Transformers vs regular figures? I mean I've heard stuff about paint thickness messing up transformations and being scraped off and what a miniature painter considered a thick coat might be different to what a regular person considered a thick coat of paint

I'd say the biggest two differences I've run into are: What you don't paint is just as important as what you paint (having a small piece not match is a small price to pay for a flawless transformation!), and brush-on, rather than spray-on, varnishes and protective coats are very useful for readying the toy for handling without gumming up its transformation.

Primer's still useful in some situations, but would then need to be scraped off a few select areas. For some of the WiP figs, I primed the top of vehicle mode, and paint the rest of it unprimed.

In some cases, I shaved down the plastic prior to painting in problem areas - the paint makes the widened gap less obvious, and lessens chance of damage.

I've seen some mention of people dipping parts of transformers in dyes to change the colors, which sounds like it'd be hard to scrap off. Haven't looked into that much, though.

Ooo, and Simple Green actually seems to weaken plastic. It's never been a problem for me when stripping paint in 40k, but it reduced my Cliffjumper to a partsformer.

Thanks, might give it a try with some smaller, cheaper models like Cyberverse before moving on to what I really want to do, paint up a spar Ripclaw (http://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/thumb/4/47/PrimeBHtoy-DeluxeRipclaw.jpg/800px-PrimeBHtoy-DeluxeRipclaw.jpg) as Ser-ket (http://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/9/9c/RageofTheDinobots2-SerKet.jpg). Also pickd up a spare MEtroplex during a toy sale and I thought it would be nice to go all out on him and shade him and paint all the details but that would be a huge job. Oh and a G1 style Slug for Windblade to be chums with...

Beasty Transformers are a lot friendlier for customization - there's much less of a chance for chipping when most of a Predacon's transformation is "stand up, rotate a few panels", as compared to "rotate a fragment of Bulkhead's door into his torso, shift hinged hood onto roof peg etcetc", so I'd say go for it! (This is why prime cyberverse predacons are my fave coffee table toys - easy enough for guests to figure out immediately.)

I was wondering about that, looking at Ripclaw there isn't a lot of bits that scrap against one another to fold together and such compared to say a deluxe scale Bumblebee or something. Ever thought about painting up a deluxe scale figure as well?:)

As tempting as the bigger figures are, I need to pack up too often to add them to the collection - although I am quite happy to paint them up for sale/commission, I get the fun of fiddling with the figure as I paint it up, and then it gets sent off to a good home... same reason I have foster kittens, come to think of it.

The hobbies intersect sometimes, especially when I set up the lightbox:

Hehe fair enough. Ickle kitty is adawble.:) If you're looking for something to paint have you done the Cyberverse combine Abominus? It would look very fancy with a nice paintjob:

Trust me, the big guy's on my to-do list a few times over :P He's actually what got me into collecting Cyberverse in the first place - a set of five beast transformers, fun in each mode and a combiner? Hell yes!

Currently got a stock Abominus and his japanese equivalent to detail, and two of the transparent Abomini to go wild with. Planned out Abominus-compatible Darksteel, Skylynx and Ripclaw, then I'll play the rest of the pieces by ear. (Obsession? What is "Obsession"?)

Hehe good.:) I'm actually missing Twinstrike, was buying them all separately before I knew they were a combiner and we were one Twinstrike short so all my cousins have Abominus but I have a one armed Abominus.>< Look forward to seeing how he looks painted.
