Hello all, first post on BoLS but long time Dakka poster...

Anyway, I thought I would share what I am up to in the painting of my new IG regiment, the 49th Alascadians. Here are some pictures of what I have done previously, and I will update this thread with new pictures as I finish the units. The fastest way, however, to see what I am doing is to visit my blog at http://foxphoenix40k.blogspot.com/

This is a sample Veteran Squad that I have recently finished.

Some Storm Troopers as well.

What kind of IG player would I be if I didn't have a Leman Russ?

...Or a Commissar, for that matter?

Well that's it for now, I'll post other pictures as I get them done. Thanks for looking!

Hey, those are pretty cool.

It's not every day you see metallic armor on guardsmen. Keep up the good work.

Looks great! The metallic armour really suits guardsmen well...

Tank armour looks awesome, how'd you do it?

Thanks for all the compliments!

For the tank: Yes it was a Badab Black wash, done in an unconventional way for me. I completely washed the whole tank, and let it dry for just a few minutes so that there was still wet spots before using a stabbing motion to stipple the wash, getting that effect. I am rather pleased with how it came out.

On my blog I have a tutorial on how I paint the metallic armor... its quite simple really. I start with a layer of Tin Bitz and stipple on some Mithril Silver before finishing with the Badab Black wash.

I have to apologize for most of these pictures, these were taking after the application of 'ardcoat but before the matte finish. For anybody who has never done a matte finish, or wants a uber-cheap material to do it with: I use Modge-Podge matte finish over the 'ardcoat. It works beautifully, and you can buy it in a huge quantity for 6 bucks... more than you will EVER need for clear-coating. Just thin it with some water and you have an awesome clear-coate matte.

The storm troopers were VERY simple, just some Mechrite Red clothes under the armor, with brown rucks. The armor is the black primer, with Mithril Silver highlights. Finished them off with Badab Black wash and a clear coat.

In news: I have finished the sentinel, but have yet to photograph it. I just learned yesterday that there is a small open-door competition in my area that is having a small painted-army competition on the side. So... I only have 27 more infantry models and a Chimera to finish before then, as well as basing every model I own.... all in 2 DAYS. It takes place Wednesday. So I probably won't have time to take any pictures until it is all over.

EDIT: I never gave you the close-up I have of a veteran sergeant, so you can see how I do my veterans! I love the Pig Iron Kolony Militia heads, they look great on guard...

Dude, awesome job man. Those Guard look amazing. Man, that kicks the hell outta my painting skills, heh. Except for my Catachan camo, I think that is better than most.

Anyway, keep up the awesome work, yo.

I haven't updated this blog in a while... it gets kinda hard when you have 3 separate blogs... but I'll throw some random pictures in the mix to appease the BoLS frequenters.

In the above photo you see my kitbashed Straken and his assaulty CCS ducking back into cover while consolidating from a successful assault against a space marine tactical squad.

From the same game, this photo captures the 2nd Veteran Squad (armed with 3x grenade launchers) securing the top floor of an objective building. The back end of a supporting LRBT can be seen in the top right corner of the picture, on the ground level.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one rolling with the pig iron militia veterans! :) Sadly, mine are the evil chaos variety....

Do you have any plans yet for the bases?

The Pig Iron heads really give them a new feel with that metallic armor. If it was just standard Cadian heads it might have looked a bit off. I really like the Leman Russ as well.

@ the Defenstrator: yes, I do have plans for the bases actually... right now, the picture quality doesn't quite pick up that they are based with a simple wall-patching compound painted grey. I plan to further finish the bases with a 40k Basing kit that I won as a prize at a tournament earlier this month.

@ McRage: Thanks for the comments! Yes, I thought those helmets fit with my theme a little better. Just wait until I get my new Demolisher/Punisher/Executioner kit painted, if you liked my standard Russ!
