Heavy Gear Blitz
War for Terra Nova - Starter Set
Kickstarter is Now Live

The War for Terra Nova - Starter Set - Kickstarter is to fund molds for plastic miniatures. These high quality multi-part plastic miniatures for our tabletop wargame will form the new two player Basic Starter Set of 16 miniatures - with 4 different models at the start.

We don't want to stop there, a Core Starter Set is also available, with stretch goals that will unlock new models and add move plastic miniatures to the Core Starter Set. Our desired goal is a Core Starter Set of 46 miniatures and color quick start rulebook, which will be accomplished by reaching the 13th stretch goal of $105K CAD. This would allow for a variety of eighteen different models from 4 factions in a Core Starter Set for two players, with a multiplayer option of up to four players.

Reaching all our stretch goals will allow us to give our Backers even more, with 52 miniatures, twenty-four different models, for the cost of the Core Starter Set.

We believe that being an early supporter should be encouraged so we are setting our reward levels so that the early Core Starter Set Backers will get their rewards shipped out in the first wave. Sign up for the Core Starter Set early to lock in your shipping order and watch as stretch goals bolster your forces!

All models from the Starter Set and unlocked models will also be available at a special price for this Kickstarter to all backers as add-ons rewards for their pledges. Additional Basic Starter and Core Starter Sets are also available as add-on rewards, if you want an extra set or two for yourself or a friend.

We even have a Basic Starter Set pledge level for retailers, to encourage their support as well. Plus, we’ll also be adding some more pledge levels for Faction Army Sets once enough of the models for a faction are unlocked and a new retail pledge level once stretch goal 13 is reached.

We need your support to make this happen, please help us get the word out, by sharing this news and link to the Kickstarter (below) with friends and on social media.

Thanks everyone for your support!

Here is a video of how a model will be assembled. Check out the ease of assembly but lots of easy places to adjust for custom poses!

Question 1: Can/will quick reference sheet(s) be included as separate/detachable on cardstock? A single page would be ideal. Perhaps as part of a printed "quickstart" pack?

Question 2: Bases! Is there a specific reason why small Gears are on hex bases when everything else is on round bases? Why aren't Gears moving to 30mm round for basing consistency? Especially if HG isn't going to be played on a hex grid. The hexes look out of place and old-fashioned. Plus, 30mm round gives more room for basing and posing compared to a 25mm hex.

Q1: There will be a quick reference sheet for each faction in the core game. Since not every player wants those they are an extra add-on purchase for $1 each. This will be on a heavy card stock.

Q2: You can use any shape of base you like, the rules support them. Hexes are nice since you don't have to paint a front or back with them, just measure across the opposite corners that match the model's mounted facing the best.

Thanks for the reply.

Base-wise, I'm surprised DP9 isn't creating their own bases with a front/back arc predefined in some way. Will the new models be supplied with old-fashioned hex-shaped bases, or will round bases be included?

Creating our own bases would be much more expensive than ordering from a base making company. In the order of 6K for a mold to make the bases! That also does not cover the cost for casting the bases.

We do have 40mm round bases that some players prefer to put all their models on and are used for striders, the heaviest of Gears and other mid range models.

OK, fair enough.

Can you at least move the new line entirely to round bases for a consistent look across all scales??

Or are you guys still stuck with the old stuff?

The hex and round mix is really jarring. Especially as the models don't even fit on the hexes.

The rules allow you to base entirely on the 40mm round bases if you wish to.

You really don't want to answer the question about 25mm hex being included, do you?

Why can't DP9 give me a straight answer?

As I see it, DP9 is going to include undersized 25mm hex bases, because that's they way they've always done it. And when a potential customer inquires about an alternative, the official policy is not to accept the criticism as constructive, nor to actually answer the question in a forthright way. Instead, the response is to "buy more stuff".

In a nutshell, this tells me a lot more about DP9 than you might have wanted, and I can completely see why DP9's Heavy Gear has never been successful in the larger market. Pity, as the models look nice.

I wonder if Heavy Gear plastics are going to go the route of Sedition Wars, such that I'll be able to get a KS pledge at half price a few months after delivery. Hmm...

To your question about the bases. We have no plans to switch to all round or all hexagonal. The smaller bases are hexagonal, the larger are round.

You can use different shapes of bases if you want. It makes no difference in the rules.

Thanks!
