View Full Version : 1250 Nids Vs. Dark Angels with Pics!

Now, I need to state that the purpose of the post is not to really prove anything about myself as a gamer, but really just to do a write up for a battle report and test out my new photo editor.

Before I give my Army List I need to state that I am in the middle of a escalation league that started at 500 and is working up to 2500. So, there are limitations to what I can take. Such as no Unique models can be taken, and only 1 HS slot. The scenario was already set up for us with Cap & Control on a Seize Ground deployment.

Anyways, after the new codex came out the meta at my store was to field a ton of MC's. So, I went the other way and came up with this. (also, it is really hard to fit alot of MC's in 1250 anyways.)

HQ - Tyranid Prime w/ Regen, TS, and Boneswords w/ ST.
Elite - 3 Zoans and 3 Hive Guard
Troops - 19 Devil Gants w/ Pod, Tervigon w/ Catalyst, AG, TS, & ST,
and 2 squads of 10 Stealers w/ ST and TS.

The Prime went with the 19 man squad in the Pod. I choose to have only 1 squad of stealers outflank and the other just come from my long board edge hoping that he might head that way. The idea was for the Tervigon to spawn enough gants to keep back at my objective and the rest would move forward with the rest of the army.

So here is what the board looked like pre-deployment.

I guess now would be the time to tell you what I was playing against, to the best of my recollection. Now, I will admit the gentleman that I was played has been playing for just a few months and have a few years of experience on him.

HQ - Jump pack Inter. Chappy
10 man assault squad
5 termies w/LC, Assault Cannon, TH & SS, Fist, and PS.
3 Ravenwing bikes w/ a MM attack bike
10 man tactical w/ ML and flamer
5 man squad with plasma
Predator with Autocannon and las sponsons

I won the roll off and he failed to seize so I went first. My Tervigon spawned 9 and was able to spawn more the next turn. My HG shot at the Termies and did nothing while the Zoans blasted the left side combat squad and killed 3. They then failed their Ld test and ran their plasma gun 9ish in. away. All he did was move and put 1 wound on the Tervigon.

I did think think it was important to note my intended drop point for my spore pod, which I did get, in this pic. As you will soon find out in the next picture, thats not where I got it.

On my turn 2 I spawned 14 gants and clogged for the rest of the game, also I got the non out flanking stealers and the Spore Pod from reserves. I was really hoping to not get these 2 yet and get the OF stealers intead. Oh well. The stealers were not gonna be able to get into assault so I stuck them in cover in the right building. The pod Scattered a full 12" directly towards the board edge. I had about 1 inch left before I would have scattered off the table. Luckily, I was still in range with 15 of my Devilgants who shot at the assault squad with 45 shots! I rolled poorly though and only did 8 wounds, but he rolled even worse and saved only 2 of them! The HG tried to kill off the plasma gunner combat squad and I killed 1 of the 2, but it wasn't the Plasma guy. The zoans, the 14 new gants and the Tervigon all shot and killed only 2 bikers, but the gants assaulted and killed the Sergent and the attack bike. Catalyst was also cast on the new gants.

On his turn he brought the assault squad (w/ Chappy) and the termies down to the Devilgants. He shot and assaulted the 19 gants and killed them all but the Prime. His chappy did 2 wounds to the Prime and I delt 2 back to him. He saved 1 and made his Ld for the second and passed with a 10. *sigh*

On turn 3 I did not get the OF stealers. I thought I was just outside of Warplance range so I decided to shoot at the tactical squad instead and ended up whiffing completely. In the assault phase the stealers in the building joined the fray and killed all the termies but the TLC who kills 3. The 14 super gants assaulted the ASM and killed them all b4 they could even strike. The Chappy and the Prime ever so heroically killed each other. I consolidate towards the objective. He fires at the Tervigon with the predator and takes 2 more wounds off of it and brings it to 3. A frag missile from the tact squad kills off 1 Zoan as well with help from a few bolters.

End of 3 but, this pic isnt quite correct because it shows the stealers down south who really aren't there yet. I placed them there as I was starting turn 4.

Turn 4 I do get the OF stealers and bring them towards the objective. I knew I would need a good fleet roll to get into combat but fail and just line myself up for death. Finally I get to use Warplance and was able to explode the tank. The HG did 3 more wounds to the lone Plasma gunner but he is determined to stay alive.

My opponent from this point rushes out of the building to flame the southern stealers and rapid fire bolters. Amazingly 2 survive proving to myself that 10 is the magic # for stealers for me now. Also the lone Plasma gunner rapid fires and kills 1 Hive guard.

Turn 5 I Shoot with the super gants and the 2 zoans and kill 2-3 and the HG shoot the Lone plasma again and fail to kill him even after the assault! The 2 stealers and the gants assault the tact squad killing everything but the sergent by the end of his turn. I have also almost maxed out the daisy chain of gants that are holding my home objective.

The game goes on to turn six but it only lasts a few minutes.

Nice job. Pics are really clear and the information's pretty good. One point of advice I would give though is when you abbreviate stuff it's good to give the full name of the unit/wargear/power the first time you mention it so I don't need to rack my brains to think what it stands for.

Also, what are Devil Gants? Just Termies w/ Spinies or do they have other biomorphs?

Thanks for the advice. Devil Gants are gants upgraded with a Devourer weapon symbiote. I gives the 3 Str 4 shots at 18".
