Battletech/mechwarrior

Is battletech still a thing, with a large player base? The background, setting, and units have always interested me, but I always feel like I missed its hay day. If there are any similar more active games someone can suggest that would be great too. I live near Philadelphia, pa if that helps.

Catalyst did a good job of bringing Battletech back from the brink. It isn't as popular as it was in the early 90's but it's getting back. You can also find an active online community in the form of MegaMek and of course Mechwarrior Online. From a minis stand point it's one of those games that you can generally show up at a shop and find someone who know how to and is willing to play without much convincing. It's sort of a 'go to' game for a lot of gamers.
