I know that they are thought to be aligned with Chaos, but looking at it as though they're still loyal, is also very probable. They seem to be very similar to the Soul Drinkers in that they're misunderstood, but I dunno. I'm doing some writing for a temp. job with this guy, and I just need some more insight on the psychology of an Alpha Legion Astartes for I'm not all that well read on this chapter. Thanks in advance.

I am an Alpha Legionnaire.

My name is Creed, and I am your superior officer in every way. I have a cold, stern, gaze which reminds you oddly of a legend. I am strong for my build, and it would not be an exaggeration to say i'm abnormally tall. But... isn't this what you expect? Everyone in the Imperial Guard regiment I lead expects me to be a head above, does your primer not say so? Why would the reality be any... different?

My name is Pavonis, and i'm one of th' good boys down there in th' factories! Me overseer's always thoughta me as a good worker and an honest to th' Emperor good man in every way! I canna' lift mountains but me molehill jobs are always appreciated! I may be called a freak an' a bad'un but... why? I'm not different, ye puny no good punks! Why would I be... different?

My name is Brother Hakan, of the Emperor's Swords. The Emperor is my master, and I fulfil his will. I am the embodiment of his ambition, and a manifestation of wrath for his foes. None can stand against my power, for in the Emperor I am strong. I am the most zealous in my squad, and I am known for taking solo missions for my Captain. I have often been left alone by my brothers, and they are sometimes disorientated by the lack of bodies I leave in my wake. I am a loyal servant though... what would I have to hide?

My name is LoverzCry.

My name is Aldramech.

My name is Melissia.

My name is Herald of Nurgle.

My name is many.

My strategies are many.

My causes are without number.

I am an Alpha Legionnaire, and none shall stay my wrath.

What about reading "Legion" of the "Horus Heresy"-Series? It's not written from inside the Alpha Legion, but it may get you some interesting information.

It's a cool idea - reminiscent of triple-agent Cypher. There are mild issues with the Alpha legion's loyalty however, consisting of being herded about by demon princes raised from their own ranks, fighting the imperium's forces all over the joint and occasionally serving as the meaty vessels from which a greater demon may burst forth and lash the hide of the righteous.

Yeah, if you haven't read Legion, you need to read it and it will inform many of your questions. I think, according to the fluff that the Alpha Legion is similar to the Night Lords in that they're both working for their own agendas and it just so happens that they're on the traitor side at this point.

Is it just me that kind of feels that after 10 000 years of corruption, even if you believe that you work your own agendas or serve the Emperor you've probably fallen.
It's just so easy to take on step further.

Agreed. Humans, even Astartes, are easily manipulated by forces beyond their control / comprehension. I have a hunch that their "personal agendas" for the last 10000 years have included the "personal agendas" of the Chaos Gods as well...

Spoiler alert

By the end of legion , the Alpha legion belive that by siding with Horus they will ultmately help The Emperor in his final goal of defeating chaos by allow the heretics victory so chaos will ' burn it's self out ' after the destruction of the human race. They are told this by a group of Xenos called The Cabal who have being fighting chaos for a very long time. of course their motives can be questioned.

Whether or not after 10,000 years they are still following their Primarchs (2) desicion in this or have been corrupted is up for discussion. As in the thread i am replying to.

If you haven't checked out the Lexicanum article on them, then you definitely should, also, have you read Legion?

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Alpha_Legion

Basically, Alpha Legion are the youngest legion, and have only taken part in the Great Crusade for a short while compared to the other legions. Pre Heresy they had a fierce rivalry with the Ultramarines that continues into after the Heresy.

They specialise in covert ops and probably are the most different legion in terms of the way they wage war. They all try to the look the same as Alpharius Omegon, for the reason that if they all look the same then they have strategic advantages. Alpharius also started creating overly complex plans that made it more difficult for his legion to win wars so they become better fighters/strategists.

They also utilise a lot of non-astartes in their operations.

Alpharius was discovered by Horus, and spent a lot of time with him before he reunited with the Emperor, who he only spent a short amount of time with, so his loyalties are in question their.

One thing I think that is interesting is that both the oldest (Dark Angels) and youngest legions (Alpha Legion) both have massive question marks about their history and true involvements in the Heresy.

I think that after 10,000 years, the Alpha Legion is undoubtably for Chaos.

However after reading Legion *spoiler alert* I think that Alphariaus orginally sided with Horus with good intentions. However, with his death at the hand of Guilliman, I don't think anybody else in the Alpha Legion legitamately knew why Alphariaus sided with Horus, so know they're just embroiled in Chaos for Chaos' sake. Even though Omegon still lives.
