I have a fleet and i've never played any more than games to test the rules now I want to start playing properly so how can I weild the following into a fighting force and how should I use them together.

Space Marine Fleet

6 Nova Frigates
8 Hunter Destroyers
2 Battle Bardges

How do I take down Orks?

you can only field one barge per 1000pts of game. thus at 425-1000 pts, one barge. at 1001-2000 a second.


i think the fleet list otherwise looks reasonable

I had my first game it was ace!

The Battle Barge takes hits and delivers broad sides right in the thick of the enemy!

The Nova Frigates get behind the enemy, gang up, weapon battery then lance them to death!

Hunter Destroyers, I couldn't quite find the use for these battle ships and cruisers could handle the boarding torpedos with their turrets and damage control then would punish the Hunters in retaliation and even against escorts I couldn't roll enough dice for hits to inflict anything but blast markers and then you have to re-load. I couldn't figure their use!

I would try using a combined strike of both Thunderhawks from your Barge and torpedos from your Hunters. Remember, turrets can only fire on either torpedoes or attack craft in a single phase, so you'll be forcing your opponent to choose which one he wants to just take in the teeth.

I would also recommend trying out Strike Cruisers. They are brutally manouverable, and when squadroned in pairs, can dish out more than enough hurt to keep them from being completely ignored. Just be wary of lances.

Ok 1500pts against Chaos.....1 planet, 2 large asteroid fields.

2 Battle barges, 6 hunters, 6 Nova's

He had desolator, devestation, carnage, 3 escorts and 3 other cruisers.

We both tried to pincer manuver each other.

This lead to my nova's getting wasted on my left and the flag ship taking a beating but comming out with only 1 point of damage lost due to being tough as old boots. He lost his three escorts and buckets of ordanance as I discovered the combination of thunderhawks and bombard cannons cuts ordanance to shreds.

On my right close range strength 12 and 10 boarding torpedo salvos one after the other crippled and scatted his cruisers, the battle barge again took a pounding but came out fine, two of his cruisers flew off the board and one riddled with marine boarding parties blew up spectacularly.

I brought my fleet together in the middle of his deployment zone and he retreated behind an asteroid field until the game ended with only 1 of my escorts and a bucket of ordanance lost for the remainder of the battle.

Still loving Gothic. I think the combination of Barges and Escorts works very well and Barges can take such a pounding.

Next time I'm up for ramming the enemy ships with the barges to get them right in the enemies face.

The hunters have to fire their torpedos in massive waves to really make it count and I think I prefer the good honest lancing Nova's can provide. I want to start deploying three squadrons of 5 Nova's.

Brilliant once again. I can see if a Chaos fleet can get range on you even battle barges could be wittled down.

Marines seem to like it up close and personal.
