Is there a reason for the $25 entry fee? Is it for prize support, and is GW kicking any in?

Indeed it is for prize support. The local con in Denver in the late Sommer and Winter held by the Denver Gamers association costs about $30 to attend to 40k tournament. We want to offer a comparable price but with a bigger chunk going to prize support.

Update: For those interested, here is the cohered scoring and tentative prize support system we've put together.

Overall score will be comprised of battle, painting and bonuses from sports. There are 99 potential battlepoints and 31 potential painting points. Fully painted armies (3 colors+base/tabletop standard) will earn most of the painting points.

There will be prize support for Overall, General, Painting and Sports. As long as attendance is good (and it's looking that way), the support from local stores and majority of the entry fees going to prize support should allow us to do 3 categories (1st/2nd/3rd) in the first three categories along with sweet trophies for 1st in each (and I'm totally serious about these trophies, they are sick).

We are considering ideas to help narrow down the painting field and make it easier on judges, so if there are any suggestions we would appreciate them. Current ideas include having players indicate that they feel their army is in contention for best painted when they arrive.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.
