UPDATE 4/3/17

{{Photobucket has been messing up on my original account, so I had to switch accounts. I took all new higher quality photos of my armies and put them all up below (links have been updated). }}

I've been a Space Hulk enthusiast since I was about 15....that was 20 years ago lol. I lost contact with the game for a bit in between, but since a renewed interest and fresh look at the strategy and storyline behind Space Hulk, I have spent many an hour and dollar on trying to fill out my collection. (Note: Can pay for, is not always the equivalent of can afford. I'm sure I could have started a small hedge fund or some such with what I have invested into what has become a minor obsession with this game.)

Please enjoy the picture galleries of the minis in my Space Hulk collection. I have hand-painted 95% of it all myself (except a few Tyranids, and a couple of the squats which are not regular Space Hulk races), often having to do the entire process of stripping old paint jobs, and doing them up from scratch. It has been a journey unto itself to work with these minis, my painting technique evolving along with my understanding of the game's strategy.

(Note: I started with Testor's enamels, then was able to get a screaming deal on a set of Vallejo's acrylics on an ebay bid, which I have worked with ever since. Acrylics dry a bit faster, are easier to manage, and you don't have to deal with the fumes of enamel paint and thinner. It's a win-win for your minis and your lungs. )

The first bunch of minis complete were the Blood Angels Chapter, a few were added at later times.

Of course the Termies needed their nemesis, the Genestealer Brood Cult.

Squats? Oh facepalm... Someone should houserule Stormtroopers or Navy armsmen for Space Hulk too.

As previously mentioned, the squats and 'Nids are for Advanced Space Crusade games, which also contains rules for all the marines from scouts to terminator. Tyranids get to have mind slaves in the form of bioconstructs, traitor marines, orks, & other stuff.

The core races of Space Hulk are Marines, 'Stealer Cult, Chaos Traitors, and Eldar.

I love the old Tyranid Warrior models. Many fond memories of playing Advanced Space Crusade.

Yeah, and since the Advance Space Crusade board & blip sets are perfectly compatible with the Space Hulk board pieces & blips, they are easy to integrate into any Space Hulk game as well.

I have posted my rule-set (taken directly as much as possible from ASC rule book) for using them in another thread. Please take a look and enjoy!

(I actually have 2 sets of Adv. Space Crusade, and one of them is unopened in the original shrink wrap. I'm waiting for a good enough excuse to break into the Tyranids & Scouts contained within....but so far I have enough to suit my purposes for now...)

I added my Imperial Fist Chapter (freshly painted after painstaking weeks...) to the list of armies above.

I had to strip several of the models before starting from scratch.

Vallejo acrylics, and Krylon clear gloss final coat. The weapons on the Power Armor and Terminator Standards are attached with tiny magnets for easy removal and swapping out. The Terminator shields and standards are the plastic variety found easily on ebay.

Painting steps included:

White Primer

Yellow undercoat (2x) The shade was one darker than Sun Yellow, though I can't read it as the label ink has worn off.

Wash w/ yellow & brown. Make sure to continually keep re-mixing the wash with your brush, as the darker color will settle near the bottom.

Black detail undercoat. Every detail on the models get painted black before any sort of color goes on. This makes the colors pop and proves an 'undershadow' effect around the edges of details that is very visually appealing.

Details. The skulls were the most time-consuming part of this one, as I wanted them to come out as best as possible. I mainly used a size 0 brush, but for some details I went even smaller (with the kind of micro brushes found at nail technician stores that they use for ultra-fine designs).
Also, be sure not to get more than a tiny bit of paint on the brush tip, that way you won't drown any details, or fudge an area badly).

Decals.

Clear coat.

Sounds easy, but probably took me 8-10 weeks working a steady bit at a time when I could.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy the pics (posted above with other army pics).

I've uploaded some pics done in better lighting for my Marines and Tyranids, including some new models (Zoats and Grabber-Slashers) that were added to my collection since I last posted these pics.

Going to try to get a few more better lit pics of the other races when I get time.

Thanks for looking!

I have posted a few new pics of recently painted models, including Throned Genestealer Patriarch, a Harlequin Dreadnought, and others such a few scenes from Advanced Space Crusade. I had taken more than a year off painting, and had to do a couple hours of paint maintenance to get started again, but with a little water and acrylic extender / blending gel I was able to get about all of my paints in high performance order again.

Please enjoy the pics!
