I'm not sure if this is the right place on the forum, if not I apologise!

T'other day whilst mooching around in my local GW my Missus had the forethough to grab my shoulder and point at the PC Monitor. Upon it was an open copy of Photoshop with a poster stating "Congratulations, you guessed correctly; the mystery box is "Space Hulk"". Wording may have been different, but I noticed Space Hulk and Mystery Box and as I gasped with the knowledge the Emperor saw fit to grant me the GW employee looked around and angrily closed the program.

Unfortunately I've not had time to post this since that day, but for any who are desperate for confirmation I reckon that's the best we'll get before the announcement (oh ye of little patience, haha!).

Cheers,
Rogue Trooper

Really?

I have to say I don't believe you at all.

What kind of store has a computer with its screen facing the customers? What kind of dumb employee would be viewing sensitive documents on the floor with people walking around him? Why would the store be sent an image of a poster?

Maybe you're telling the truth but it certainly smells fishy.

I appreciate the sheer luck of seeing the poster is mad, the employee was new (I'm aware of this) and the shop is fairly small, as all UK Games Workshops I've seen tend to be, so the computer is facing the store.

I'm regurgitating more information than I have myself; I saw the words, but not the program (my Missus noticed long before I stopped being gormless and looked as well). As to the poster, I presume it's linked to the store's promotion as they have a raffle: whoever guesses what is in the box will be allowed to have access to it the night prior to it's being released. Funnily enough I entered myself straight afterwards.

Believe what you wish but I'm afraid you've an inflated ego if you believe I'd lie purely to dupe you and a community. I thought BolS might be interested in knowing what I'd noticed, if you're not you're not and if you are you are. Make of it what you will!

I'll keep an eye out for this "poster" on the release day. ;)

Could you possibly explain any images that may have been on this "poster"?

More importantly, in addition to the first relies comments, why on earth would a GW store have Photoshop on a computer?

And as mentioned, they wouldn't be sent a digital file, they are sent posters to put up, professionally printed etc. Besides, we only have to wait till Monday to find out what it is, Sunday evening for the GW email newsletter on it ;)

But until then, I find this highly unbelievable, and from some of the comments made by my local black shirt, I'm actually not certain on Space Hulk any more.

I actually don't want it to be Space Hulk for two reasons. 1) It's limited production. Everyone should have the opportunity to buy it. GW would be pissing away a ton of revenue by making such a sought after release limited. 2) Production was outsourced. The last thing I or anyone else wants is the highly anticipated return of Space Hulk to end up like the Blastscape.

Although i agree the large POS (Point Of Sale, or posters to those not in the retail business) are sent directly as professionally printed on quality paper etc.

Simply using "Why Would GW have photoshop" as an argument is rediculous as GW stores regularly put together small A4 posters and A3 posters using TADA! photoshop, or whatever else they can get their hands on.

As to the "Why would the PC be facing the store" argument. many UK stores only have 1 pc, its the one that is used by customers aswell, and is obviously accessible to the customers.

Rather than go balls out on the sceptisism, why not just say, "sounds interesting rogue trooper, hopefully you're right" then we can all be communists and live happily ever after or something :D

Having spoken to the missus again (break at work):

It seems it was an in-store produced image, by Photoshop she meant a program that allowed image editing. The poster was more than likely in response to my aforementioned in-game competition.

Imagery was standard 40k, GW logos. Clipartesque image of an exploding present with large red lettering that said "You Guessed it: It's Space Hulk!".

Again, this is what she's seen and I saw in passing, that doesn't mean it's definite. Chances are it's not official, from what she described, but it is relating to an in-store competition that involves the mystery box!

Perhaps it is the Alpha Legion at work and what was seen is irrelevant, but I'm feeling chancey on this. I've no reason to doubt it unless GW are enacting a serious counter-intelligence campaign.

Heh, and thankyou TSINI: I honestly meant this only as a heads-up!

(let's see if I can do this without the computer crashing like it did last time I tried to post this!)

I worked in a comic book store for a few years and attended a few trade shows where the subject of a "customer visible" computer came up. The owner would want the customer to see the screen for 2 reasons:
1) an employee can easily show (without inviting the customer behind the counter) products that are available or coming soon to help with getting the customer what they want.
2) the idea that a customer can see what the employee is doing is supposed to prevent the employee from visiting any "non-professional" site (i.e. PORN) while on the job.

Who would work on an image-maybe he just opened it and got called to help someone and forgot to minimize it.

Why send an image-it's cheaper for corporate to make the stores print their own posters (it would be from the local budget) than ship posters (and easier to custumize)

Now here's a side idea: maybe multiple product posters were sent, and "Space Hulk" is a fake among many product fakes and they won't review the real one until GD but all fake and real posters have to be ready the minute the announcement is made.

The exact same thing occurred to me, chances are if GW employees don't know then perhaps they're excercising prudence and creating several prior to announcement rather than doing it the night before, or they're producing several to allay suspicion.

I mentioned it here because it seemed to fit with the trend, but there's a million explanations!

Who cares? I'm past the point of caring anymore.

Myself and the missus for one; she doesn't want to collect a full army of Tyranids but wants to play with me. My SMs are fluff-wise Space Hulk specialists. This game would make our day, cheaply. In fact there's a fair few people who care a little I'm sure. Maybe only a little bit, but care all the same.

As like most people I stand little or no chance of getting one I gave up caring when the 10,000 figure came to light

they Croydon store had 0 pre-orders when i asked today, manager expected to get 50 or so allocated to his store, i think they are being distributed direct from mail order so perhaps a direct only thing also. if you go to your local store this weekend and hand over £60 im sure that you will get one.

Either way, the nearest GW store to me is about 4 hours away in Atlanta. I have no care to drive in Atlanta traffic for any reason. If you can get it off the web-site, then I will. If not.....

Hmm well I think it is worth bearing the following in mind;

Nearly every UK GW Store I have been in has a customer facing PC - it's generally the instore order point for GW Direct BUT it's got other stuff on as well because it's basically a PC with itnernet on it and all the stuff hidden away from customers.

From talking to the manager at the store I went to, I honestly believe that any GW UK store taking deposits is doing so off their own back, so to speak, and this is not reflective of any actual official campaign - the guy I spoke to today told me of his own will that they get their store "mystery box" Tuesday, as it would be posted out Monday, and this confirms what others have said here on the forums.

I know how this sounds, another GW manager is an old colleague and we've shared a fair few secrets at our place of work, he says he doesn't know for definite, he thinks Space Hulk, but until it comes or the announcement is made, it's a best guess.

I don't believe this rubbish about "every store gets 5" and "no preorders" - maybe something like a GW UK Gamesday exclusive edition then a standard edition - but I fear even this would rightly provoke the anger of non UK GW fans as, good as it is, its just not worth flying to the UK for Gamesday unless you're rich!

Don't get mad at me for pointing out how silly the idea of poster that says "Congratulations, you guessed correctly; the mystery box is "Space Hulk"" is.

Think about it. Would anyone earning a salary not be fired for producing advertising that lame? But like I said you could be right. The mystery box could even be 40k cereal.

Maybe he was making the poster to be inside the box, so when you opened it you knew exactly what it was.

Or the person could just be making a joke to get people excited. Retail work can be pretty boring ( I know)

1. I was in GW Norwich today - the PC faces the customers so they can mail order etc. The Blueshirt was grabbing people to register on line for the prize draw.

2. There is a Royal Navy Admiral who is security adviser to Gordon Brown. He left his TOP SECRET laptop on a train. Do you really think GW employees are incapable of doing this?

3. Possibly because it's cheaper and faster than glossy printing paper which you then have to distribute - the local shops just print an email. Or maybe just to confuse you?

You smell fishy.

Byeeeeee.

Have you failed to notice how much GW corporate identity and philosophy is aimed at teens beginners? The lowest common denominator? The bone questions the blue/red/black shirts are compelled to ask you when you walk through the door?

Most professionally executed advertising is lame, such as saying 'your pet is our passion' when blatantly our money is their passion. So why would some bearded hippy geek working for GW produce a killer ad campaign?

Your cynicism doth vex me mightily.

You know what I have noticed? If I posted on here that the world is round or the sky is blue, someone would jump on my back about the shade of blue or the earth not being exactly round....but more importantly...not one of these verbally abusive nay-sayers logs back on and apologizes when it turns out that what was posted was correct. I would really love to see "Hey man, I know I jumped down your throat with both feet when you said that Imperial Guard would be the next codex...sorry bout that, and I will eat my hat now." or something similar.

The guy just posted what he/his wife saw on a computer screen. Maybe it was a real upcoming announcement, maybe it was not...in either case he did not claim that he was certain that the box would contain Space Hulk. And the later contention that only rocket scientists work at GW stores, so the poster must be lying because no employee at a GW store could possibly make a mistake is even worse. I am offended that someone might read this thread and think that everyone on here is this rude.

In any case, I hope it is Space Hulk because I did not hold on to my original copy and would love to own it again.

Well you should see the GD Germany announcements a bit later on. UK staff get a nosey tomorrow morning at stores and I expect GW website will have it splashed all over it. - its still Space Hulk :D
