Last Thursday night on the drinking stream, there was a bit of spirited (SEE WHAT I DID THERE!? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CndVtLvCMEI)) debate on which Chaos Gods corresponded with which Harry Potter Houses (I know... you had to be there, I guess).

I know very little about Harry Potter, but I do know my 40k influences... but every last man jack of the players were absolutely smashed by the stage of this 'debate', so I let it lie. But, chances are people aren't absolutely smashed right now, (plus I just remembered about it this morning) so here we are.

The Big Four were originally based in large part on the concept of the four temperaments (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_temperaments), which itself has its roots in humourism (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humorism). The corresponding humour for each Chaos God is this; Nurgle - phlegmatic, Khorne - choleric, Slaanesh - sanguine, Tzeentch - melancholic.

Why the Chaos Gods are based on any of these things at all goes back to one of 40k's original influences: the author Michael Moorcock (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Moorcock). The Four Powers have grown and developed a lot since their inception, but that's (very basically) the root of them.

So, how do the Chaos Gods correspond with Harry Potter school houses? I still have no idea. To me, English schoolkids are more like football hooligans, so a better question would be "Which Harry Potter House corresponds with which Ork Clan?" :D

I dunno nothing 'bout no Harry Potter but I can at least chime in with my orky know wots.

Goffs - Goffs are the biggest, baddest, the toughest and the most orky (at least in their minds). They are the most plentiful of the clans and are probably the most eager to fight.

Evil Sunz - Evil Suns are the fastest, loudest and the most orky (at least in their minds). They love the thrill of charging into the fight and love the clammer and and cacophony of battle.

Bad Moons - Bad Moons are the richest, fanciest, have the best equipment and are the most orky (at least in their minds). They love having the flashiest gits and love showing off their wealth at any opportunity.

Snakebites - Snakebits are the most feral, traditional, and the most orky (at least in their minds). They shun technology and prefer riding into battle on boarback than on a bike.

Blood Axes - Blood Axes are the most cunning, sneaky, survivable and the most orky (at least in their minds). They use hit and run tactics, camouflage and will retreat if needed, unlike any other ork clan.

Deathskulls - Deathskulls are the luckiest, best looters and packrats and are the most orky (at least in their minds). They are a superstitious bunch who love finding wrecked junk on the battlefield and turn it into something more deadly than it was.

So based on matt's descriptions... I'd say Goffs and Evil Sunz are Gryffs. Snakebites and Blood Axes are Slytherins. Deathskulls are Hufflepuffs. And Bad Moons I have no idea.

To help put the 4 humors in a larger Pop Culture context here is Cracked on How the 4 Humors connect to the Sex and the City Girls and the Ninja Turtles.

Going directly to the 4 temperaments and the Hogwarts houses
sanguine = enthusiastic and social = Gryff
choleric = short-tempered, quick-witted, and irritable = Slyth (Don't hate me Jenn. Choleric was traditionally a negative aspect to have and you were supposed to avoid choleric foods)
melancholic = analytical and quiet = Ravenclaw (This is the gimmie)
phlegmatic = relaxed and peaceful = Hufflepuff

Note these always work much better when mapped to groups of 4 people and I would argue that the 4 FOUNDERS do exemplify those traits.

IIRC, Originally the chaos gods were not completely negative as well, but now they have become a monolithic evil that wants to destroy everything. Anyway, I am just chiming in because Michael Moorcock books are pretty great (although writing styles have changed since then) and if you don't like to read many of them have audio books available. People should read/listen to them so that they don't look at me like I'm crazy when I try to explain that GW did not invent the realms of chaos >.>
