My Friend sent me this list he's working on. I think it is great!

Fluff wise, this is meant as a “you refuse to provide us with your
tech-relics, we take them by force!” kind of army. It’s mostly a
combination of IG, Marine and Witchhunters, and Eldar and Tau unit
thrown in for spice. Tactically, Zachariv joins the Support Robots,
the Overseer hand with the Heavy Artillery out of view, the Veteran
Skitarii infiltrate or drop (reroll scatter) & the Assault Robots and
Robot Microtitan come in on the Deployment Lander, placing them right
in prime killing position, or on a forward objective.

Although its not at all nessisary for Apoc, I divided the army in to
HQ, Elite, Troop, Fast and Heavy Support in order to follow the idea
of a traditional ‘balanced’ army.

As for modeling, here are some of the ideas I’ve come up with:
Zachariv should be almost more of a battle suit, perhaps with Ork like
muscles. The Mechanicus vat-grafting isn’t a clean as Space Marine
geneseed.

The Micro-titan is exactly as it sounds, a dreadnaught sized titan.
The Hurricane will be a TL-Tri-barrol bolter, with the chain fist
looking like a Titan CCW.

All the Skitarii have a guy in power armor leading them. The Robots
have a techpriest in their midst.

Broadsides should also look like mini-titans, but thinner and less
robust then the actual Micro-titan. Railguns will be replaced by
Advanced Lascannons.

I like it - except that the Wraithguard and Farseers feel out of place. Better to treat that unit as Necron Immortals or Terminators or something. Or even drop it and replace with Praetorians (use Obliterator rules).

No super-heavies? He'll wind up regretting that. Get a Baneblade.

Deploying storm troopers in Land Raiders is also a huge waste. Land Raiders are only remotely worth the points if you're assaulting out of them with a super-nasty squad - they have no firing points and their onboard weapons are mediocre for the points. Use Chimeras instead, or if you're feeling bold, a Banehammer or Doomhammer. This is the AM, after all, they'll have access to more super-heavies than anyone else, since they make them!

Speaking of the storm troopers, dump all those power weapons. You're not going to be winning any assaults with them. I would spam minimum-sized squads of "real" storm troopers (not ISTs) with plasma and melta.

Also, fluff-wise, I'd be more inclined to call the dreadnoughts "Knights", or perhaps more properly "Knights Squire" given their size.

Well.

This is supposed to be a thematic list. Knight Titans are quite a bit larger than dreadnoughts, they are ~2/3rd the height of a Warhound Scout Titan. And mostly, these are supposed to be Robots, not even controlled by humans directly.

This is supposed to represent the Mechanicus going to war: They make the Land Raiders, they would use Land Raiders! Storm Troopers make sense, because they are not Space Marines, but these are the Skittari Legions--- the best equipped. I do not understand why they would use the chimera, nor do I understand why they would be in minimum sized squads. They Power Weapons because the mechanicus would have lots of those things!

As for the Farseer and Wraithguard--- they are supposed to represent a pair of Techpriests overseeing advanced robots with experimental Mechanicus Weapons. However, I do like your idea of the Pretorians and using the Obliterators. I'll pass that on to my friend.

So you're saying Forgeworlds don't make Chimeras? Pretty sure that's not the case.

Also, "Knight Squire" sounds like a plausible unit. "Mini-Titan" sounds corny. Just my opinion.

Themed lists that suck on the tabletop aren't fun, at least in my experience. That's why you don't see Tide of Spawn too often...

Knight Squire is a good idea, I'll pass that on too.

Yes, forgeworlds make chimeras, but this is the Skittari, which was my point earlier.

And themed lists do great... When you have a moderated Apocalypse game. If someone states "lets play apoc" I ask: who's organizing it. If I don't get a person who is running a thematic campaign, I don't play--- because I know it will only about who brings the "most Broadsides".
