Gordon Brown hammered company car users.
It used to be based on the annual business mileage.
So all these various service engineers doing 30k a year barely paid owt.
and directors that parked it at the office all day got hit.
They changed it to a percentage based on emissions/rrp.
a quick estimate based on your prospective job, without the firm giving you free fuel or charging you for personnal use on 40k a year for a mid range petrol focus
gives this

Basically taxed as if you're earning 4.5k a year more.
Prius are massively polluting. Have you seen the manufacturing process for a li-ion battery?
And how long will those battery packs last? I doubt you'll see many 15 year old plus prius running around.
Really when you think about it the defender has got to be one of the most environmentally friendly cars going.
If you are only just in the top bracket then you can, by taking various options via salary sacrifice drop your salary below the threshold. Things like private health, company pension, cycle to work scheme, etc. all are taken pre-tax, if you have your options right it will just drop you below the upper threshold. Legal tax avoidance, gotta love it.
DL: They also do one with an fridge in the front so you could sell ice creams while peddeling around.
Also, who needs an engine when you can average 14mph through rush hour traffic, though looking back at this morning's ride, I did hit 38 in a 30, ah well. Also it is mild enough for shorts again! Huzzah!
We don't really have a "rush hour" here in Torbay. I can easily "enjoy" my car or bike at responsible speeds if I so wished.
As for the Prius.....just no. As has been said the good old defender is a nice green car and I hear the jeep is one of the best over its lifetime.
6 cars and a tractor! Damn this morning rush ;)

Oh BBC, how we love you. Makes me feel sad though, some poor kid lost their Pooh.:(
It seemed apt in the fruit thread.

Safer than gardening.
Though I do agree that the thin blue line on the Bow roundabout on CS2 is a death trap...Attachment 7374
Yeah, I know sad times. I blame poor infrastucture. The blue paint on the road makes it look like those in the cycle lane have priority to go straight on, but in reality, it doesn't mean anything, not even technically. So you get vehicles (many construction vehicles that are not road worthy) turning left, with a cyclist in the blue path nice and snug in the blind spot, even with a helmet there is 0 chance.
How cool is this?

I dunno.
Rebel Alliance.
LRN2NRD,NOOB
well it has been what almost three decades since the last film to feature the rebel scum came out, so please forgive me for forgetting who's logo it was....
I've always been an Empire fanboy myself....
PS I know the films have been on DVD/Bluray/TV a lot, but I haven't watched them since the early 2000's... I got fed up with Star Wars, it happens you know ;)
Fed up???? Fed up?
Fed up, with Star Wars????
DIRTY BOY! :p
Even better :D
Huzzah.

Mystery, are you watching season 4 of walking dead ?
Nope, watching this:

Ohhhhhhh :)
I can't wait to see the internet explode again over a certain something that's likely going to happen in episode 2 or 3.
The latter, more likely. The former is fall-out, and the consequences of the latter directly result in the former, making it less of a punch. Plus, of those two characters, which one is more hated;).
I forget sometimes how fast this thread grows. Thanks for the well wishes about my job all. As to what I'm doing, I count things for a company that retail companies hire in to do stock takes for them because they either don't have the staff to do it themselves or they don't trust them! A team of us go in and count everything in the store in the space of one night, last job was a B&Q store in Chippenham. Sounds really boring, but is oddly kinda fun and there's a real sense of achievement at the end of a count when you look at the store and realise just what you've accomplished in such a short time.
On a totally different topic, I had to laugh at parts of this article on the BBC News site about the battle against Asian Carp in the Mississippi River and the efforts to prevent them reaching the Great Lakes, in particular this bit:

Cheaper options are also being examined, including making burgers out of the fish and eating them to extinction.
Read the books:

Not read the books:

Though I think the third person may be more of a shock for some.

That is a good point. In the books, that was more important for the effect it had on the main character of that subplot, but in the TV series that's been played up a little more, so it's probably going to be a real double-whammy.
