£10? I could go for that. I did just start rebasing my undead a few days ago, so this is pretty good timing.

I'll add I what I've been told by a GW rep last Thursday whilst I was buying some AoS Chaos. (Take salt)

during our conversation he let slip that the Tomb Kings are being phased out; this is due to them not fitting aesthetically with the vampire counts and the lack of sales they generate even with the free rules.

When this comes our we'll know for sure (they wouldn't throw rules out for a faction they're dropping right?)

So it's just grand alliance vampire counts then :( I was hoping they would amalgamate both vampires and tomb kings into 1 rather than just get rid of tomb kings altogether. Also 35 wars rolls when the vampire count download has 39, looks like some characters are getting the chop!

Not convinced TK are going away. At all.

Remember, people swore blind Seraphon weren't happening. And Beastmen were being removed. And the scale was being rejigged and enlarged.

Yet none of those came to pass.

I really hope they stay but only having 35 warscrolls over 8 factions that don't include mummy's or reanimates doesn't fill me with confidence considering this is a grand alliance death book. Unless tomb kings become destruction or, more likely but still far fetched, order. Tho stranger things have happened, lizards are now deamons!

Hope for the best, expect the worst.

Although the free downloads will still be usable for the foreseeable future

Currently 64 Undead Warscrolls on the App, of which 24 are Tomb Kings.

So that would leave 40.

Now, some are pretty much doublers, such as Skellingtons and Tomb Guard, so no guarantee their gone.

But yeah. Hmm.

I don't see why they'd ditch Tomb Kings. They got a pretty substantial overhaul in their last book, including multiple (very nice) plastic kits. They're bought and paid for, and the only time you'd make a loss is if you removed them from sale entirely.

Eh... maybe TK didn't sell well enough. That'd suck, but since all Undead are meshed together, a lot of their stuff is just doubling up with other Undead stuff, and some of it doesn't fit the new style as well (i.e. old style Skeletons beside new). While it's all already paid for, you could say the same for, say, Dogs of War, Albion stuff, Slayer army (original), Middenheim stuff, etc., but they all got phased out due to sales, and AoS is trying to completely redo the aesthetic of the line anyway.

Still, for under $20, I'll grab a copy, to use my Undead in AoS if I ever get the chance, along with KoW and any chance games of WFB I get. At least it's a reasonable price for the book.

If anyone still wants to play TK, the rules are online right now, and even if GW removed them, I'm sure copies would continue to float around the Internet forever.

"grand alliance of death" is a joke. Chaos alliance book included almost everything from all four previous chaos army books AND the AoS new stuff. The VC book doesn't even have everything from one of the two undead army books, almost certainly nothing new (unless they're dropping not just old special characters, but entire units from vamp counts as well), and only one formation.

They shouldn't even have bothered. They really shouldn't have. This is worse than nothing. At least with no book we could have still hoped for some other new undead stuff to come along soon, and still entertained notions that they might not just drop the tomb kings outright.

Dropping tomb kings because they sold poorly my foot. I can't think of one old army that hasn't sold poorly since age of sigmar came out.

I'm guessing we'll know more on Saturday, when, in theory, the TK stuff, if it is indeed being dropped, will move to 'last chance'.

I still don't see them ditching plastic kits though. All the stuff so far has been Finecast or Metal.

They cut the forsaken that was a fairly new kit, but 1 box is compleatly different to a whole range, even if they do cut them I have an army that can use the free rules for quite some time and most of it can be used, proxied or converted to vampire counts over time so not overly worried, just a bit disappointed if it happens (as I have also been a chaos dwarf and dogs of war player)!!!

Forsaken may have been removed for a resculpt.

It's a nice kit, but very staid due to the limitations of needing to rank up for previous editions. With that removed, they have more potential to make Forsaken extra gribbly and dynamic.

Plus, Forsaken feature in the latest AoS novel, Wardens of the Everqueen, so they definitely still exist in the background.

As I said take it with salt but at least from what I know from my friends who play in tournaments, Tomb Kings were a rare sight (they saw more beastmen and Bretonnia then Tomb Kings). If I was to hazard a guess at all I would say they would be removing the older Tomb King units (Warriors, Chariots and all the finecast/metal kits left) as well as the Tomb Guard and keep the Necrosphinx as with a darker paint job it might blend in with the other 'elite' undead (Nagash, mortarchs and Morghasts).

Speaking as a former Tomb Kings player what killed them for me was the lack of released content when they were redone for 8th. sure we got a few new plastic kits but what about the basic skeletons that were (and still are) showing their age? I played chaos and Tomb kings since late 6th and then just chaos when Tomb Kings release disappointed me.

I can see some of the kits being retired, sure. But not the whole range - the Skellingtons and that are indeed showing their age (did you know, that the Skeletal Horse is now GW's oldest plastic kit still in production?)

Erik did raise some relatively recent retirees, but importantly none of those was really a fully-fleshed (hurr) army, so much as alternate builds for existing armies with a couple of new units at best.

Interestingly (and over optimistically ) if you combine skellingtons (and archers) tomb/ grave guard, horsemen and archers etc, remove all the finecast that leaves 34 warscrolls (and 1 for the new bone giant thingy)

Not that I think it will happen!

Oh, looks like other people noted them first.

Anyway... I can see it happening. This is, after all, a whole new universe and all, and Khemri no longer exists. The excuse that they'd keep stuff around for people who have said army doesn't really work when they've blown up a whole world and game system already.

Will it suck if it happens? Sure. Would it be the least bit surprising? Nope. Better to just expect it and accept it if it happens, and cheer if it doesn't.

Yet a big thing was made of New Lahmia in the latest sourcebook - and that Neferata styled it after her old seat of power.

So that would mean War Statues etc.

Not to mention Arkhan The Black. He's still kicking, and is a Liche Priest.

Yeah, but that leaves things open to just add in new stuff going in a different direction, like the Morghasts. They're Khemri-esque, but different enough to be something new.

If they save the Sphinxes, I'll be happy. I love my Warsphinx.

the entire Tomb kings range is moved to this "last chance to buy" section, including the plastic kits. Never had a range I like squatted before! I would of thought they would of at least kept the necropolis knights and sphinx kits around and moved them to one of their new armies. Really shocked by this move tbh. I ended up buying 3 sets of Sepulchral stalkers and a sphinx to finish my army with.

I am surprised and grumpy and also going to order a lot of warphinxes.

Don't worry... as every single AoS apologist said: "They will never squat an army!" They certainly get re released with brand new models and campaigns and... no? Well who did see THAT coming...

It saddens me (TK being my first army) but this what happens when GW ignores a faction over a popular one. The 8th edition release of Tomb Kings saw new kits but only one reworked kit (Tomb Guard) so whilst you had all your fancy monsters you had at the core 20 year old skeletons with an upgrade sprue and 10 year old chariots and Horsemen sculpted to fit with the old models. It was the main factor why I stopped playing tomb kings considering what I saw from the Vampire Counts Skeletons that were reworked.

So much for ebaying my old stuff :/

As a Vampire Count player I feel for my Undead brothers

Now this makes me wonder what other armies are not going to make the cut once the other alliance books come out.

I expect Brettonians to probably get cut, they never even had the support the TK got. Could see a lot of the empire and elves getting cut too. The "not knowing" is probably the worst part though as you don't know when a kit you might like may get squatted from existence. The Chaos Forsaken kit was 2013 i believe which is quite recent, allthough I may be wrong (please correct me if I am!) the newer TK kits were from 2010, so it seems modern kits getting the cut is a real possibility.
