It's not just those games though, it is literally every game where women are present. These people may abuse each other in game sometimes too but not with the same level of vitriol or sexual elements that enter into it with women.
yeah playing online can be pretty horrendous, kids, usually american, kicking off, screaming, swearing. you also just get irritating people who talk endlessly, jabbering away about nonsense. every game has different settings for muting people as well.
Like I've said before, i've only experienced that in a few games, when I used to play on the SOs account, but in my general gaming unless its been done by PM I don't see it, but I believe that's down tot he servers I play on as they have zero tolerance I've seen enforced.
I had a colleague once who was an army trained sniper, and thus was a bit good at sniping in games. His own team used to mute him. Not because of foul language, but because of a little Peter Griffin laugh with every headshot would be his only communication. And he got a lot of head shots.
yeah, it can be really annoying when people just don't shut up. they narrate what they are doing, you hear them eating, drinking, if they are young you might hear their family in the background, mother complaining etc. drives me round the bend.
Most of my online gaming has been in MMO style games. Guild environments where we either talk over headsets or just type. Met a few prats, but for the most part just genuinely nice like minded folks. World of Warcraft especially has a great community in my experiance.
And Nerds wonder why we struggle with women?
I had a great experience with wow guilds. It was the game itself that started sucking the life from me.
I e been sucked into League of Legends recently. Fun game. But damn am I glad I don't use team speak with random matchups. The average player age seems much lower.
I see that sort of elitism in the store often, especially from MtG players which is pretty hilarious. "Oh, I see you're a girl playing a card game. It must be to impress us boys." It's kinda hilarious and has resulted in me posting pictures like this to their Facebook Group in response.
It's saddening how some of them react when girls come in. We have a guy here who seems a bit...well...special, who follows girls around a lot. He's harmless and just socially awkward, so most of the girls here tolerate him, but he still annoys them sometimes and it's pretty creepy to watch him shadowing them.
