1) Blobbed platoons work way better as bubble-wrap. With a CCS to give orders, 30+ guys with heavy weapons will be more accurate than BS4.

Blobs do one thing that vets don't: win combats. It might shock you, but a comissar and three sergeants with power weapons nets 12 powered attacks. They'll beat tactical squads, bike squads even...

I'm also conflicted about Demolishers vs. Standard Leman Russ. It's becoming increasingly my opinion that the range is more useful than the higher strength.

Agree with Chumbalaya. Blob squads are as close as IG will get to tactical squads: survivable, good in combat and good at shooting. 30+ guys with 3 x heavy weapons and power weapons can use orders...

Yeah, I like the above better. Having one less plasma gun won't matter too much - especially once you start taking casualties.
