this is still only 7 models and loses to the 31 man DC w/ chaplin. 5 of your models are 1 wound, DC hits first landing probably 100 hits probably 70 of those turn into wounds you fail 11-12 of those....

With the Death ray you do not target any unit. You pick two points and everything in between is hit. So yes units under that line in close combat are hit.

Ward wrote Codex: Space Marines which has drop pods that can transport 12 models. Every other chapter codex since has drop pods with transport 10.

the wording of unwielding sounds like it only effects the models initiative for attacking. So the model would pile in during its normal initiative.
