IIRC, it instantly destroyed non-vehicle models, and automatically damaged vehicles it touched. It also stayed on the board for a random number of turns and moved around randomly.

All this talk of 2nd Edition craziness makes me miss Vortex Grenades and my Vortex Grenade Delivery System (AKA: Jump pack equipped techmarine).

In 2nd Edition Shuriken Catapults jammed all the time, due to the sustained fire dice.

I agree with your thought. An AP of '-' or '6' would balance to prevent lighter armored armies from being decimated.
