Default Althran & Spinetail Released Oct. 23 in Extreme Short Supply, at least in N. America

Back on September 6, Games Workshop announced the release of two special miniatures available in their stores on October 23 as part of the Island of Blood core set global mega-battle promotion. The models are High Elf Prince Althran and Skaven Warlord Spinetail, key characters in the background tale for Island of Blood. I can't speak for anywhere other than the US, but I can tell you that in spite of what appears to be a relatively high demand for these models in many of their North American stores GW has shipped only a token number of these miniatures to those shops. A poll of a few different shops in my area reveals that each store only received two to four copies of each model to sell. If it's like that all over North America this will mean that the models will sell out extremely quickly and GW has not said anything about whether or not these models would be available later on their website or through restocking at their stores. In other words, if you really wanted one or both of these special edition models they may prove rather difficult to obtain and likely impossible for many customers. Store operators will be upset because it will cut into their potential sales for the day and many customers will be disappointed that they could not obtain models that they really wanted. Customers who miss out on these will just have to hope that GW makes them available again somehow at least for a while after the event.

GW sent out an email today saying the models would also be available online. Good news for a lot of customers given the limited number sent to stores and given how many people are not near a GW store.
