Default High Gothic For Dummies

I recently started going through a Latin dictionary for a bit of fun and seeing what 40k-related things I could dig up. These are my findings. Some of them straightforward, some weird, some not really Latin-based. Have a look and tell me if you think I'm on the right lines.

The Imperium In General: Includes Adeptus stuff and that sort of thing.

The Primarchs: A lot of clever guesswork with some good results. Also, Uriel Ventris.

The Tyranids: This is the most recent one, and the one that was most fun to write. Even if you wouldn't know the Tyranids had psuedo-Latin names unless you read at least the 4th edition Codex.

Obviously this isn't the end, so more will come in on an irregular basis. Enjoy!

I'm actually surpirsed how much of it is at least closely related to actuall latin, I assumed most of it was pig latin that they had cobbled together to make cool names.

I like this articles. I do however think you are being to harsch on names like with the primarchs. Most names aren't exact words but changed slightly from the word they want us to think of. For example Ulf in sweden comes from the word Ulv which means wolf. But you don't want people to be called Wolf, you just want them to sound... wolfish.

(I'm sure some history nerd can correct me here that ulf was the original spelling or some such but you get my point)

Read Dan Abnett's books (especially Ghosts) and you'll find latinised phases all over the shop.
