Chess-40K Style

The idea is a simple one: If you where to take a standard chess board and design a set of pieces off the 40k model lines which models would be what? Heres an example...

40k Tyranids
King - Hive Tyrant
Queen - Broodlord
2 Bishops - Zoanthropes
2 Knights - Lictors
2 Rooks - Carnifexes
8 Pawns - Genestealers

I was actually thinking of doing something like this for my dad for a Christmas present. The only problem is that it would be for actual chess, and so would have to fit on an actual chess board. (I.e. the pieces couldn't be twice the size of a square.) I figured I could buy him a nice, large-ish board, and then put together and paint the models to give a fairly unique gift that wasn't 100% store bought.

I'm thinking I'll end up having to use pieces from multiple armies to get good, distinctive pieces for each spot that would all fit on the board correctly.

Initial swag on the pieces:

King: Inquisitor Lord ((Terminator Armor?)
Queen: SoB Cannoness
Pawn: IG troops
Bishop: Primaris Psycher
Knight: SM Sergeant
Rook: IG Ogryn

i really liked Gwensdad's suggestion for Ig,

althoug i woud go higher with one side representing th entire Imperium, so

White - The Imperium (gets to go first)
King - The Emperor (in Golden Throne)
Queen - Inquisitor Lord
Bishop - Adeptus Mechanicus Models
Knight - Space Marines with jump packs
Rook - Space Marines
Pawns - Imperial Guardsmen

Black - Enemies of the imperium
King - a Chaos God (of your choosing)
Queen - Abbaddon
Bishop - Eldar models (unsure which, a psychery type one methinks)
Knight - Dark Eldar
Rook - Tau battlesuits
Pawns - Hormagaunts

I think maybe reversing the Rooks and Knights would be better...bikers=knights, jump packs/wings-rooks.

With a little Hirst Arts goodness to build nice bases, this could be a very nice set. In fact, my son is making a chess board in woodshop...maybe a set of 40k pieces would be a perfect finish.
