Default Space Hulk Painting

Ok then, and this is what has just joined the painting queue, and it's actually going to get done, eventually!

So, welcome Stage one in the painting of Brother Noctis, Terminator Extraordinaire! Maybe

I'm following the GW step-by-step for him, and will be for the rest of them as well. I'll probably use the same for stealers, but possibly substituting the colours. Bear in mind he needs a little tidying up before I move on, and a couple of the colours I had to mix up due to my limited supply. The base is my own devising, if you can see it on any of the pictures.

The model isn't undercoated, just as a test to see whether it would work or not, some paint has already started flaking off, so the next one will be undercoated to see if it helps, not looking forward to painting the red on that, but I may purchase some white undercoat.

I have a few ideas on what I'm going to do with them to make them more individual to me, but nothing firm yet, it's a technique I've only ever tried once, and I failed pretty miserably! But I have more experience in painting now so it may go better, I'll let you know when I've had a go, don't want anyone stealing my idea just yet!

Sorry about the double-post, but I thought this one deserved it's own post

Teaser Picture number two, strife in the Company:

Brother Noctis: D-Deino, take it easy man, if you want to be painted go take it up with the boss, look, he's over there right now . . .

More pictures of him will be up some time soon, but most of Stage 4 is done, I just need to pick up some paints from the store to do the gems, and so I have all the colours I need, easier that way

By the way, have you EVER tried to mix up Warlock Purple with blues, blood red and white? It's blinking impossible I tell you!

Well, Noctis is almost finished, he still needs his pointy arm line highlighted in blazing orange then the armour line highlighted in vomit brown.

After that I will be attempting to global light him as if he were in a corridor lit be red emergency lighting. Any source lighting that is appropriate will hopefully be done as well.

    So, onto the pictures:

Ok, another update, I've started on the global lighting . . . I think it's going alright so far, but I'd really like opinions on this.

I've got a few pictures so far, the only way I could think of to simulate the almost incandescent glow you get from anything red under red light was to use orange. Blazing Orange specifically as it's the only one I have! I also mixed up a blood red/scorched brown mix to darken the areas in shadow. I'm considering however making the distinction even harsher, making the shadows almost black, mainly because I love how he looks when I shove him directly beneath a light and use no flash. Essentially it would be simulating a direct red downlight. At the moment I haven't done any of the line highlighting or washes again, I have to mix up some variations for them, so that they get the right colour . . . not looking forward to that.

Anyway, I have to source-light the eyes as well, but they're about the only bit that needs to be source-lit on this one. Maybe the pointed finger from the lens above it.

    Pictures:

Atmospheric with no flash (What I would like to get, second one is with the eye taken from another picture and photoshopped in, to show what it might look like with that there, the other lenses would also be like that):

    With the flash for details:

As mentioned further up, I would really like feedback on this, particularly on my thoughts to make the shaded areas much darker. Thanks in advance!
