    Default Sky claws!

anybody field them? i was thinking about getting a couple boxes but wanted to k now if its just a waste of money/points. i think fielding 10 with a wolf priest and maybe a WGBL would do some real damage. what are your thoughts?

I think it sounds like it could be good, but it is quite a few points dropped into 1 squad, after you give the priest and wolf guard jump packs and the right weapons to be deadly, it will be an expensive unit that is not very survivable. too many weapons with ap 3 or lower.

Many lists that people tend to field with Space wolves don't incorporate Sky Claws well. Their a unit that your army/list has to be built with, you can't just add them and expect everything to be fine. With that said, many people that i've seen and heard from don't use Sky Claws. The biggest reason is the WS/BS 3 issue, and this flows over to the views of bikers in a Space Wolf army/list. You would need to have a wolf guard seargent and a Wolf Priest, for the re-rolls, and after all is said and done that one unit is quite the investment and will be towards the top of your opponent's priority list. The biggest question as whether to field them or not comes down to what role do they fulfill and how effective are they in that role? if their super effective, then you got yourself a good unit, no matter the cost, if their sub-par, then you got a unit that needs to be re-looked at.

It is true that it really does help to have a wolf priest and possibly a wolf guard (for extra power ccw) to make them effective, but if anything they can be a great counter assault advancing behind your vehicles for example.

Fenrisian Wolves are a much more cost effective alternative to Skyclaws.

Theyre faster, have a greater threat range without the Dangerous terrain risks, have almost as many attacks at the same Strength and Initiative on the charge (providing most Claws have the extra attack for 2 CCW), and just as many in the second round of combat. The only disadvantage they have is the lack of Armor or power weapons etc but at 128 points for a full unit of 15 with a Cyberwolf, compared to 180 points just for the 10 Skyclaws without Wargear?

The ONLY thing stopping me taking Wolves in the past was those suck-*** models.

Anything that is related to bloodclaws (sky, swift) should be ignored IMO, unless you're just making a fun list. Then bring whatever you want.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but Sky Claws do not get the Wolf Guard Pack Leader. The dubious honor of being a Sky Claw is not one that any Wolf Guard would participate in short of being punished.

Well then, that certainly lowers Sky Claws damage output even more! So it seems that Sky Claw and Astropath guard duty are the two worse punishments for a Wolf Guard?

saddly there is better options then sky claws. Which is a bummer since I love the look of assault packing wolfs

The Wolf Priest is really the lynch pin of the unit, without him its pretty lackluster. Load him up with a pair of wolf claws and go to town.
