Default The Concept of Pain - Chaos Demons

Greetings, fellow dark ones!

This is my first post here, so maybe some words about myself first.
The interwebz know me by the name Hydra. For the last couple of years i have been doing mostly Tyranids (have a look here) and stuff for the various Golden Demons (mostly nids aswell).

Some time ago, i was struck by the idea, that i should be able to play WHFB aswell. So, what army does someone chooses, who like to convert every single model? Of cause the one that has the fewest design rules available... Demons of Chaos.

So this is what it is all about in this thread.

The thought behind this army was as simple as it was challenging.
First i wanted to have an army that is playable. I guess there are armies in WHFB that are way more max-ed out, but i guess i can keep up with that army in the higher middlefield. So i sat down with a tournament-experienced friend of mine and we brewed up a list.

Having the list done, the second aspect came into view. Every model in the army should look like it was one of Slaaneshs creations.
So i consumed tons of inspirational stuff (starting from Silent Hill to Dead Space.... oh that was fun...)
and worked out the concepts for the various models.

Today i want to introduce you to my bloodletters with their herold:

I am sorry that i don't have any close ups, and since they are already in the painting process, it is hard to do so. But i will make close ups, once they are painted.

I hope you like these...

stay tuned for more!

I love the greenstuff work on the Deamon Prince/Unit Filler it blends in with the rest of the model really nicely. And the greenstuff work on the herald reminds me of the alien queen. Definitely looks awesome though, cant wait to see more.

Great greenstuff work. The simplicity of the large single eye (although I am sure it was not simple to make) makes a very impactful effect that really changes the whole feel of the bloodletters. Very effective work.

Thank you all!

@Cherub: well... some horrors, slaanesh beasts, greater demon, seeker... i guess that's it...

I know that the one eyed theme is pretty stigmatised and everybody thinks of nurgle.
It's the same with my Mantis Warriors. They are green and everybody says: "Hey cool nurgle marines" but nobody cares to look at the icons.

But, i feel that i should explain why i did this.

The big advantage about wh40k (wait... it will all make sense in the end) is that every single miniature is telling its own story.
In WHFB a single converted guy standing in rank 3 gets no attention. That is a reason I was never that much into Warhammer as into 40k.
But i never realised, that the benefit of WHFB is, that the whole unit can tell a story.
Certain details, repeated on every miniature, gives the unit a uniform feel to it, while other details bind them into the army.

So i had to clarify what details/story the unit should tell and what aspect the army should follow.

So the theme i found for the army is the essence fo slaanesh (IMHO): The Senses.
And it wouldn't be deamons if those aspects weren't stressed to the max.
That gives the first theme, for the "bloodletters" it is "Seeing".

A little excurse in creature design: Never make it look like it would belong to a human. Take the aspect and stress it.
With seeing/Eye we could make one of the following:
1. 2 eyes (but that wouldn't work with the basic rule)
2. No eyes (see alien and other creatures... and of cause the herold, whos headshape was just to tempting)
3. Multiple eyes (love doing that on my nids)
4. One eye

Regarding an Unit this detail should be seen on the first look (haha.... that was not intended). So i chose the one eye aspect and gave it to all off them.

Enough of that boring theory.
Next up: Firedemons

I really like the "boring" theory. I also like how, whether deliberate or not, the demons have tie-ins with the other gods. For example the Bloodletters look kin of tzeenchy (new word) and the whole one-eye thing is a good tie in with nurgle and lastly without all the horns and stuff the 'letters seem a little more serpentine, there is your slanneshieness (new word # 2).

I really like the look of the guys in the last pic. When do we get to see some paint on them?

Wow, very cool stuff! ^_^ This is likely to make any daemon player you meet feel a little insecure xD (Me being one of them)

Nice work mate, some great conversions. I particularly like the daemon prince who is absorbing two hapless women into his back! Look forward to seeing some more shots of these as you get them

Very nice conversions. I like the herald.
