Thread: IC Question

  1. #1

    Default IC Question

This may be a stupid question so forgive me, I'm still new.

If I take an Independent Character such as an Inquisitor, and give him a war band...

    1. does he have to fight with that war band or can they act independent from the IC?
    and
    2. if he does have to fight with them, can the inquisitor with his war band join another unit as well?

    Thanks

An Inq. Warband is a separate unit from the Inquisitor in all ways - apart from listbuilding, he's as related to it as he is to a GK Terminator squad. He can join the Warband or any other unit, and the warband cannot be mashed into another unit.

very few ICs become permanent additions to their 'command squads'.

Tyranid Hive Tyrants (attached to tyrant guard)

    Thinking here...
    uh... black templars.
    Tau Shas'el/O commanders with bodyguard.

I think that's just about it.

Tyrants and Tyrant Guard are separate units unless you choose to attach it to them (in which case they can't be separated anymore.)

Calgar and his Honor Guard are also entirely separate and don't have any special restrictions at all about their deployment.

Black Templar Command Squads and Tau Bodyguards (for a Shas'el/o or Ethereal) are the only "retinue" HQs remaining in the game.

I thought the Honour Guard were seperate, since he can take 3 he cannot be joined to them all, as units cannot join units.
Fluff wise it refers to the Honour Guard as his retinue but IIRC rule-wise the Honour Guard themselves do not have the Retinue rule and so are not.
