    Default Obscured Shooting Rules

Situation came up in a game this weekend:

Tyranids across from Tau Firewarriors. 2 Tau gun drones (separate unit) between Firewarriors and Tyranids. About 50% of the FW had clear view of the Tyranid targets. About 50% were "obscured" by the gun drones.

Out of all the shots available (RF/Etc.), 6 shots hit. Where do those 6 shots come from? Do they all come from the models not obscured? Do 50% of the shots come from the obscured models (resulting in potential cover saves for the tyranids in front of the drones) and the rest come from the other models not obscured?

We ended up doing 50/50, since the rule book wasn't very clear on what to do in that situation, but I'm looking for other opinions/thoughts on this.

    Thanks.

    per model.

    allocate to closest model

    does model have cover?

    yes/no

    If yes roll cover save

    repeat

    See attached visual.

If it was cover, it wouldn't be a big deal. The issue was a unit between the target and the shooter.

If they did not say they are focus firing then there would be cover and wounds allocated to closest model. If they focus fired they could choose to fire on everything not in cover and wounds allocated to to closest model out of cover.

I would just separate the models firing through the drones from the models with clear los. Roll them separately.
Give a man fire, and you keep him warm for a night.
Set a man on fire, and you keep him warm for the rest of his life.

The new rules do not allow you to resolve the shooting this way, you have to work it out exactly as Nachodragon said. Either they all get a cover save or you can only kill models with the save you declare that you want to shoot at.

You check to see which of the enemy models have cover from the attack. In order to have cover from the attack, an enemy model must have cover from at least one of the firing models. If an enemy model has cover from even one firing model, it has cover from the attack.

If, after determining which models have cover, some do and some do not, use the rules for allocating wounds to units with mixed saves for each wound-profile for which the cover save is relevant (by which I mean the wounds will ignore the models' armor or the cover save is better than the models' armor.)

In this case, it looks like all of the enemy models have cover from at least one of your models--this would mean that they all get to take cover saves.

Now, if some had cover saves and some did not, you could opt to focus fire on those without cover saves--preventing your wounds from being allocated from models with cover saves.

However, judging from your diagram, that is not an option here as they all have cover.
