    Prachett and Tolkien would disagree...

Pratchett and Tolkien don't write WFB background.

My idea of a female dwarf is short, buxom and rather outspoken. Much like the ones in WOW. I have read in some fiction that whilst female dwarfs do have beards, the hair is very short, very fair and very very soft. Don't remember which novelist described them that way, but if they have to have beards then that's how they should be.

Personally prefer how Blizzard portrays them though.

I don't remember Tolkien ever mentioning the matter at all. I don't think it comes up in the books. I know that the issue is mentioned in one of the movies but I suspect that is just Hollywood grabbing on to existing nerd-lore... cheers...

He mentioned it in some other work, one of the lesser known books or something like that.

I prefer the beardless version because it makes more sense, they wouldn't have beards for the same reason as human women. Though Tolkien's dwarves were created rather than evolved...

That's clearly a pre-pubescent female, once they sprout, dwarven females are married off and tied to the kitchen to raise a litter...

However the process of robo-insemination is far too complex for the human mind!
